I absolutely loved this little hotel! It's quaint, cosy and the family who run it are absolutely amazing!!! About a week before my arrival Germania, the owner, contacted me and we exchanged WhatsApp numbers so that I could keep in touch upon arrival in Ecuador. Once I landed in Cuenca, she texted me and gave me directions to the hotel. t is actually only a 10 minute walk from the airport terminal, and even pulling a small suitcase it was an easy walk. However on the way back to the terminal the next day I splashed out on a taxi - which was $3 (USD)!!! Germania and her daughter made me feel so welcomed in what was effectively their house. There's an indoor garden with palm trees growing. When I was there it was raining but despite the open sided roof, it was completely dry. The rooms are modern, large and have a very comfy bed. The next morning I had to leave at 5am (I skipped the free breakfast so I could have an extra 15 minutes in bed!) and when I went downstairs to leave Germania had got up early to help me on my way. She booked a taxi to the airport and waited til it arrived. **This was without doubt the nicest 'little' hotel I've ever stayed in, anywhere in the world** I promise I'll come back to visit for longer next time!!

I could not recommend Hotel Italia (Cuenca, Ecuador) more highly! It's a truly wonderful hotel in every way: the rooms, the staff and the location (and the price!). The room: I stayed in a Standard Single room and I had absolutely zero reason to complain. It was cleaned to the highest standard, not even a tiny, single loose hair etc. anywhere and the bed... When booking a single room, I expected a single bed, but the bed was gigantic (could've probably fit an entire family haha) and so incredibly comfortable. The staff: So incredibly friendly and you could just feel that their desire for your stay to be as pleasant as possible, is truly genuine, coming straight from the heart. I had a special requirement (which I informed the hotel about, before my arrival, at the time of booking) and they have truly exceeded my expectations, in trying to help me as best as they could. The location: The location was a very important thing for me, as I really wanted to be close to both, the airport (Cuenca Mariscal Lamar International) and the Cuenca bus station (Terminal Terrestre) in order for my journey to be as easy as possible and... Hotel Italia was the perfect choice, as it is a WALKING distance from both! About 8 minute walk to the bus station and 15 minutes to the airport.

I left too early for breakfast so had no idea what it may have been like. Everything was cool especially Walter who was as friendly and as helpful as it is possible for a hotel manager to get. He helped me stash my motorcycle in the underground carpark and was more than willing to rise early to help me get on my way. Great location within walking distance of the historic centre. On the main road but the tram and car noise didn't bother me. Great value for the money.

My review is based on the fact that I may be moving here...

My review is based on the fact that I may be moving here permanently. The city is a bit big for my preferences, but even as such it offers a great deal to do and to enjoy. There are plenty of museums and places to walk, lots of restaurants, but I am not a tourist. Cuenca's sweet, springlike weather year round is lovely but it's high. If you're not used to altitude you need to be prepared. It is a rich tapestry of color and people. Please bring respect for the culture and an interest in mastering some of the language, it's the attempt that counts. I am also here for the horse riding in the Tarqui.

Cuenca is a fun and cute city.

Cuenca is a fun and cute city. It has the colonial town feel of other Latin American towns. I was there on a holiday weekend so the nightlife felt busy and fun. There are a lot of fun daytime excursions and things to see and do. 3 or 4 days is a great amount of time to see the city.

The city has beautiful architecture.

The city has beautiful architecture. I really enjoyed walking in the downtown. Churches are awesome and offer great artistic designs. Pumapungo Museum, and the Museum of the Aboriginal Cultures generate an immersive historical knowledge, both are remarkable. The people is very polite. I recommend to visit Cuenca.
