A short distance from breathtaking waterfalls and within driving distance of Hawaii National Volcanoes Park, SCP Hilo Hotel offers comfortable accommodations and a swimming pool. Very close to the airport. Really friendly staff. I did not realize the sustainability efforts of the SCP brand when we booked, but this added to the good feeling of our stay. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. There was free gated parking. We spent a lot of time at the pool which had a really nice seating area and a beautiful buddha statue adding to a serene feel. I also strongly recommend the Lomilomi massage at Malama Honua Massage Therapy. We ate several meals at the restaurant next door, Coconut Grill, which had amazing food (my first time trying Lau Lau) and really beautiful local art depicting Hawaiian legends.

We were on the second floor, so not having an elevator was no big deal. The sound of the ocean waves crashing was a great way to wake up. With the ocean breeze, the A/C was definitely not necessary. Close to tons of great restaurants and coffee shops. Wifi was slow in the mornings but still worked, and worked great at night. It worked in our room just fine. We didn't need to; the lobby staff was incredible; the rooms were clean and comfortable.
