Dar Ayed is another Tunisian gem when it comes to accommodation. Located in the middle of nowhere, it provides you with much needed distance from the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities. You are just a few minutes driving away from classic Star Wars filming locations and the accommodation itself fits well into the Berber surroundings. The staff was very friendly, the breakfast was good and the rooms were cozy. A bonus: the stars in the sky were beautiful, since there is not that much light pollution around. The drive to the hotel is incredibly scenic.

I read a review where one said it was worth the 500 km detour from Tunis, I’ll give you a better one: it’s worth a 4000 km detour from Amsterdam! The setting, the views, the amazing rooms, the village itself, the location, the hospitality and company and above all, the delicious dinner and breakfast. It was perfect from start to finish. The house is lovely and exactly as described in the photo. We also found fruit and water upon arrival. The location was very quiet and close to the sea and had everything we needed. I highly recommend it for a stay in Gabes.
