SwitzerlandTerrazas de Salento is an amazing place to stay! I would easily stay again. The rooms are beautiful, very clean, with an amazing view. The staff is always super friendly and super helpful. We had booked two days with one day of gap in between as we had a long hike tour with one day of sleeping in the mountains. We could leave our backpacks in the hotel, coordination with the tour guide was smooth and when we arrived back, our room was waiting for us with our backpacks already there.

This is a perfect place to come and reset from all of the chaos that some of the bigger cities in Colombia offer.
Coming here was one of the best decisions that we have made on our Colombia trip. The elephant rock horse ride with Diego and Guillermo was an unforgettable experience which I could not recommend booking enough.
The staff are all lovely, highly attentive and are happy to help in any way which they can. The breakfast is amazing and hearty and both times we ate dinner, the food was spot on. We’d recommend the trout in garlic paired with a nice glass, or bottle, of vino blanco!

We did the Cocora valley loop trail in 4hrs (inclusive of a stop). We hike quite regularly, this trail was great, at times not so well signposted but we got round after a detour or two. We’d class it as a moderate trail, with two pay booths along the way and also facilities to buy drinks etc if needed.
We walked from the reserve to Salento and picked a Jeep up to take us to the trail head.
Finca Ocaso was the coffee tour that we took (also via Jeep from Salento. And Filandia is a trip well worth recommending especially on Saturday or Sunday when the locals are all out- just be sure to book your Jeep from Salento in advance as this service can sell out pretty quickly.

Beautiful small town nested in the Coffee growing region. Great location to explore around other towns, and the famous Cocora Valley. I am not sure if Salento or Filandia was used as the inspiration for Encanto (the movie). Calle Real in Salento is full of small arts and crafts stores and plenty of restaurants to choose from. We spent 2 night there and thought it was the right amount of time. We ate dinner at El Patio which had live music, good food and service. Had lunch at Casa Willy’s (jeep) great food and good service too. You can walk around and it is very safe. My only recommendation is try not to drive into Salento at night, very dark, narrow road with tons of sharp curves, this drive at night is only for people experienced in driving in Colombia. It is a great town with a lot of vibrancy and energy! The town itself is quite small, but it offers a lot for a 3-to 4-day stay. Numerous restaurants offer excellent food options. The main square is vibrant at night, and it's worth spending a couple of hours there, soaking in the energy and fun. The main street (Calle Real) has great shopping options for tourists. It also has a couple of places that offer great live music. Mirador and the steps leading to the top offer great views of the mountains and the valley. The town was cute and clean. People were friendly. It’s an easy walking town with fun live music and places to eat and drink. The cócora valley hike is a crazy touristy zoo if you dont go super early. If you like to hike then go counterclockwise and hike up to the hummingbird sanctuary first.
