United KingdomThe family running the hotel were so wonderful- they were smiley and helpful, helping us to book taxis, giving us advice about hikes & transport. When accommodation at our next place didn't work out they happily allowed us to stay another 2 nights. The views over the mountains, tropical plants & coast are breathtaking, and the inner garden courtyard where the rooms face is full of banana & breadfruit trees as well as tropical flowers. The breakfast is big & varied day by day- the view from the breakfast roof terrace room is stunning. They gave us tinfoil to take the sandwiches we had made from breakfast on our hike with us.

The room was large was impeccably tidy and clean
Belém was extremely welcoming and a very helpful. I would have been literally and figuratively lost on my upcoming hike without her.
Breakfast including cachupa, bruschetta, yoghurt with (I think) oats, mixed fruit, cake and papaya jam was a perfect start of the day before going on a hike.

CanadaAmazing place to stay - beautiful views in every direction. Rooms are simple, but comfortable and great value for the price. The included breakfast was a good start to the day and the dinners served communally for a reasonable charge were very filling and locally sourced. It was nice to meet other travelers - not as easy to do these days. The owner is a dynamo who can take care of everything while switching between French, English, German and Portuguese.

SwitzerlandGreat staff, good location, good value, great breakfast and tasty food in the restaurant they hold in the same building
(especially loved the home made ice cream!), laundry and taxi services easily provided (but alugueres are easy to use and much cheaper, although less flexible), felt in a family home. In the end we forgot the passport and wallet in a drawer (!), they called us right away to get it back.

Lovely small town by the coast close to mountain trails.
Lovely small town by the coast close to mountain trails. We stayed 5 nights but would have happily stayed another couple of nights.
Good restaurants in town including an authentic Italian place run by an Italian and serving home-made pasta with tables on his terrace. He has a wonderful model town, that he has made himself, on display for you to look at while waiting to order. Casa Maracuja served good local cuisine and we also enjoyed the food at Paladar where they serve cachupa. We had a rental car, but there were also alughers available for transport to Porto Novo, the ferry port.
