Berchtesgaden is an amazing place for a vacation. There is so much to do with free bus access to hikes and other interesting sites. The town itself offers many dining options, places to visit, and a very helpful tourist info center.
Berchtesgaden is easily accessible by train and a stay in a guest house gets you free bus service throughout the whole fantastic region. We highly recommend it as a place to visit for at least several days. We stayed six and could have stayed longer to take advantage of the many beautiful hikes in Alpine National Park.

A beautiful area but you do need to be fortunate with the weather to appreciate it. If you are visiting Obersalzburgh and the Kehlestein, make sure it is fine before booking, or just hope you are lucky.

We stayed in Berchtesgaden for 3 full days. It's right in the Bavarian Alps so the views are incredible. Berchtesgaden is a beautiful little town, as are most of the other small towns in Germany and Austria, where our trip took us. You can go to the Konigssee, do a boat tour, hike to the largest waterfall in Germany, or head over to Salzburg, which is only a 15-20 minute drive. Great area to check out!

great hiking. Cute town. Eagles nest is a must see...especially the amazing views and the documentation center. The hstory is very interesting. It rained one day and we did a fun salt mine tour as well. Cute city to walk around. Kings lake is beautiful and the hikes there are great as well.

Obersalzberg is where we visited.
Obersalzberg is where we visited. The Eagles Nest is a quick visit as it’s just a restaurant and once you’ve seen the view there’s not a lot else. Get there early - it’s a zoo by 11:00am! Best bits were the lift and bus journey. Allow plenty of time for the documentation centre.

A beautiful town with amazing mountain views and plenty to do. The guest card gives reductions on a number of attractions and free public transport in the area. Recommended - the Salzberg salt mine, Watzmanntherme (spa), Salzburg day trip, the Obersalzberg documentation centre and Eagle's Nest, Königssee boat trip (and swimming), Hintersee. There are places to eat next to the hotel, but also in the town centre (about 10-15 minutes on foot or free on the bus).

Traditional Alpine hotel 3 mins walk from the train station. It is around ten to fifteen mins walk into the main town centre of Berchtesgaden. 20mins walk to the Salt mine museum which is a must see. Berchtesgaden is really beautiful. The hotel was lovely and warm and has its own little café. My room was absolutely gorgeous with a fantastic balcony view. I was pretty blown away with it. They also had gluten free bread (but make sure you tell them in advance)
