A Revivalist Triumph
The capital of Lower Saxony, beautiful Hanover has been so thoughtfully planned that you can’t tell it was largely destroyed in World War II. The city is full of green spaces, one of which is by huge Maschsee lake where sailors and rowers share the waters with pedaloes. In winter you may be able to skate there. A smaller lake in the Maschpark closer to the centre reflects the grand New Town Hall overlooking it.
The Old Town Hall is in the Old Town where half-timbered buildings were brought from all areas of the city during rebuilding. The square behind hosts one of the Hanover Christmas markets. The others are on Kröpcke pedestrian shopping street, and in front of the station, where the city’s main shopping centre - Ernst August Gallerie – is located.
To the north are the incredible, landscaped Herrenhausen Gardens – awash with colour for much of the year. This area gives its name to the local pilsener – Herrenhäuser. Also here are colourful sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle, whose work is also displayed in the Sprengel modern art museum.

It was a real surprise.
It was a real surprise. We went to the Flea market along the river and the bridges and the old and the new architecture were a real revelation. Everyone thinks Hannover is boring but we had the best time visiting the palace and the garden with the amazing Grotto by Niki de St Phalle, Went to a great little wine bar, Next Generations Wine, had a beautiful mezze dinner at Al Dar and then Karaoke at Downtown. We had a fab time.

Hannover offers an appealing array of fine dining experiences; the town/city is exceptionally easy to navigate and it is supported by a well-developed transport system.
The abundance of supermarkets throughout the city is a welcome convenience, while the town centre stands out with its inviting shops and a lively farmers market (I saw on Friday morning) all nestled within a clean, safe, and well-maintained urban setting.

Beautiful city with lots of great food, places to shop, places to relax, a wide selection of name-brands, unqiue shops and generfic shopping. THey also have beautiful historical buildings, including a mini Versailles. Highly recommend!

Nice city, good shopping, beautiful views and friendly people. Can really recommend to choose hotels with no breakfast and do the breakfast in some nice breakfast place in the city (like Seven Days) or just at a nearby bakery :)

If you are interested in "pretty, old" Germany, there are lots of other places that are more attractive to visit. While there are some stunning individual buildings such as the Neues Rathaus and the Maschpark (which is lovely), much of the city centre is standard fare - chain shops and shopping arcades. The Herrenhauser and surrounding gardens are delightful to visit, though. So a mixed bag. Worth a day or so, perhaps?

It was good to visit a well maintained city, there is a slightly noticeable homeless issue but not significant. City is on the whole very clean.
The transport system is fantastic and efficient but does require foresight as DB usage requires advanced booking - tip make sure your phone is charged! Public transport is reasonably priced.

This is a good hotel to stay in when at Hannover Airport for an overnight or two.
The staff both at the reception and restaurant are really nice. Very efficient and responsive.
Room is big with complete amenities.

It's a lovely hotel. The Irish bar is a real highlight with a super friendly barman and good value food. Breakfast is really nice with plenty of choice. Although outside of Central Hannover it is easily accessible by tram or car (about 25 minutes). I would definitely choose to stay here again.

Very clean and nice. We just had one stop in connection with our drive through Germany and the location close to the highway is super (and still no noice from highway which was great).
