A 7000 Year Old Mediterranean Jewel
Embraced by the sandy Costa Blanca beaches and caressed by the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Alicante has a rich heritage built over thousands of years. Alacant (as it's known in Valencian) has a deep history ranging from the first tribes that arrived at the slopes of Mount Benacantil to Greeks, Romans and Moors. Alicante is like a big town/small city.
Alicante is like a big town/small city. I stayed for a long weekend, basically because the RyanAir flights were cheap so the trip sort of paid for itself once I'd taken the duty free savings on the return trip into account.
There's some really great shops, restaurants and bars. Not sure it's somewhere I'd want to go with kids, though, as there's probably not that much for kids to do.
Would I want to stay there for a fortnight? Probably not. But it's a great location if you're looking for a short city break.
It's also well worth considering for an overnighter if you're en route to Benidorm as there's a tram from the city centre that costs very little to use.

Considering the time of year. Almost the end of December. The weather was a little bit on the chilly sided. However the town atmosphere .lively restaurant and bar. lots of people enjoying the Christmas festivities and more.

We visited mid-December and the weather was very pleasant with blue skies and around 17 degrees during the day. The nights were cooler & we needed the duvet on the bed.
We visited the Castillo de Santa Barbara which was very interesting, however half our party had to sit at the coffee stall as the paths are difficult for people with mobility issues due to cobbles & steepness.
We also visited the Ocean Race Museum which was also very interesting if you are interested in sailing or extreme sports.

I was only there for a couple of nights, but it wasn't what...
I was only there for a couple of nights, but it wasn't what I was expecting from a destination, which I perceived as being a tourist trap... Yes, it is firmly catering to tourists, but the town itself is old buildings, winding narrow, cobbled streets and seems great respect has been given to preserving its history.

Lovely city with beautiful views. a couple of days are sufficient to explore most of the main sightseeing spots. Get lost in the maze of the old town with stairs and charming houses, climb up to the ancient fortress, eat tapas and paella on terraces, visit the amazing meat and fish market. Well worth a visit.

Barrio is a wonderful old city....
Barrio is a wonderful old city.... The Esplanada is unique and the beach excellent. much sun and light (Alacant). You can drink a Guinness to
O" Hara ... and eat excellent near by to Terrace del Gourmet ! See the castle Santa Barbara and the old Santa Maria Iglesia.

Perfectly located between beach / harbour area and the shops/restaurants, this hotel boasts the best location to explore all Alicante city has to offer. The bus stop for the airport is a short 3 min walk away. The hotel is spotlessly clean and offers a fantastic breakfast. The rooftop bar is small but offers lovely views of the castle and the city lit up at nighttime. While this hotel is more expensive than others in Alicante it is worth paying the little extra

We enjoyed our stay, seriously, it was far above our expectations, the apartment is lovely, it was spotless and the beds where increadibly comfortable, its also in a really nice area with the view on the beach, there's also a tram station nearby so getting to Alicante couldn't be easier.The homeowners are amazing people, they are very kind, thoughtful and they speak good English.in summary the apartment is great the, area is nice and the homeowners even nicer

Higher floor was quiet and had great view to the marina and the Santa Barbara Castle.
Best buffet breakfast of many hotel stays. Relaxed dining area and lots of choice fresh fruits,pastries ,cooked food.
