LuxembourgGreat location, the must-see sights are all within 10-15 min walk, many bars and brasseries are just a few minutes away. The hotel is also close to the Saint Leu area with bars and restaurants near the river (10 min) (see photo). Parking in the nearby parking garage (90m away) is also good, it felt safe. It is a dog-friendly hotel and also the staff was very nice and accommodating. I got a room on the second floor and had a very nice view on the cathedral (see photo). I had a pleasant stay and on top of that the weather was sunny.

We came for the Rederie.
We came for the Rederie.
Overall we had an excellent experience. Huge event, very well organised, the streets felt super safe and secure.
We found lots of good and interesting things at fair prices.
We enjoyed our interactions with the majority of stall holders.
BUT - one sour note, we found some traders suggesting ludicrous prices - vingt-quatre euros for things not worth vingt euros. We suspected that they were offering special prices for the English. And this was confirmed - we overheard several saying things like "When we hear the English accent we put the price up!" Well take note - a)most English people understand French and b) that attitude spoils things for everyone ....
We would also have liked there to have been a higher percentatge of more specialist stalls - a very high percentage of the stalls seemed to have a pretty random selection of items for sale rather than focussing on specific areas of art and design. This made it difficult to tell one street from another.
Amiens is a handsome city, with very good buildings from all ages, and very clean, civilised streets. And its very easy, and enjoyable, to get around - on foot. Meanwhile, the city bus network is excellent - the buses are frequent, inexpensive and its easy to buy tickets and understand destinations and correspondences.
We LOVED the museum. Fabulous collections - archeology, paintings, sculpture. Brilliantly curated and displayed. Marvellously informative labels. Superb architecture - inside and out.

I used Amiens as a base to visit important historical sites in surrounding towns and villages. The Cathedral is the largest Gothic construction. The parks and canal boat tour is recommended.
Although in France the cradle of gastronomic food, I also enjoyed Turkish food on offer not far from the B&B. Well priced and fresh, meat done on charcoal.

Around the train station, Amiens was rather ordinary.
Around the train station, Amiens was rather ordinary. I was surprised by the giant awning over the plaza near the hotel. Walking north to the centre of town gave a little more charm. The Cathedral is majestic and imposing. Going further north, the Somme river is gorgeous, with the 'quai' restaurants.
South of the Cathedral is the Musée de Picardie - a must see with three levels - prehistoric, medieval and recent past, chock-full of artefacts and information. Many gaulish and roman coins, dinosaur bones, statues and busts, and truly beautiful paintings to rival those in the Louvres.

I liked that when I checked in I got a free upgrade to my room and that overlooked the cathedral. The room facilities were good and the location was superb. WiFi was also really good. I managed to get cheap parking on the street next to the hotel so that was handy. It cost me €11.40 for 24 hours and I didn’t move my car once. Breakfast buffet was great with plenty of choice. The Chablis wine was also lovely! Sofia was extremely accommodating throughout my stay and even helped me with onward bookings at other Mercure hotels in France.

Spacious studio apartment. Very comfortable. Instructions for access were very good. It was very clean. We would be delighted to stay here again. Lovely location for visiting Amiens, with parking outside the door. It was a bit basic but overall fantastic value for money.

The location was perfect for us as a stopover heading down to the Central france. It's not far off the main route a new build with convenient local grocery store. The staff will friendly and welcoming and the bistro attached serve delicious reasonably priced food
