I drove down from the Marne valley and this was as far as I wanted to drive in one day! Orange is a delightful little town with Roman theatre the main attraction, but I used it as a base to visit Mont Ventoux (Tom Simpson memorial), Avignon, Arles, Camargue and Pont du Gard - all easily reached by car. Quieter than the main Provence towns but with nice restaurants and cafes so was very happy with it as a base for 3 days. Favourite lunch spot was the Brasserie du Mule du Pape in Chateauneuf du Pape.

Train into Avignon takes only 15 minutes (don’t bother w car!) and a 15-20 minute drive gets you to several of the best wine production towns in France w many tasting options. The city itself is very stylish and relaxed w excellent restaurants. The Roman amphitheatre is still in use w world class performances.

A small compact tourist area which is easily visited in one day. A good centre to operate from to visit Avignon, the Gorges and the vinyards of Chateauneuf du Pape. The Roman theatre is a wonderful place to enjoy a concert... but take a cushion if sitting on the concrete benches... and if necessary waterproofs. The charge for entry to the theatre and museum is excessive as there is very litle to see other than the wall of the stage.

Parking was quite difficult in Orange and you need to pay in the centre. The surrounding areas are absolutely stunning and well worth visiting especially the Gorge de la Nesque, Gorge du Verdun and of course the drive up to Mount Ventoux. The wine region is one of our favourites and there are many fantastic villages to see such as Gordes, Rousillon and L'isle sur la Sorgue (arrive early to find good parking)

After being down on the busy Cote d'Azur it was a welcome and peaceful respite. The old town is lovely and there are many cafes and restaurants to enjoy. The piece de resistance of course is the world renowned Theatre Antique amphitheatre where you can go to wonderful concerts - we went to see the unparalleled Sting.

Great peaceful, happening town.
Great peaceful, happening town. Nice size for a short visit as you can walk the major parts of the old town historic areas within an hour or less! Cute boutiques, jewelry, clothing, swimwear stores. Mostly independent shops. Saw lots of touring cyclists so the flat landscape is a big bonus for them. The Roman influence is everywhere: working amphitheatre, arc de triumph, ruins, etc. Recommend touring the amphitheatre and then going across the street to the museum. Lovely town squares with sycamore/plane trees to block out the sun. Lots of restaurant choices. Place dés herbes has a tea shop: lovely to sit outside an have a cuppa tea or coffee. Overall a peaceful quiet town of historic significance. Romans+ William of Orange/j’aoute of Nassau.

Nice little hotel next to the train station and 10 minute pleasant walk into town. Very friendly staff although manager quite busy (but not with guests) on our arrival, we had to wait to check in. Secure garage for bicycles. Rooms small, basic and a little tired. Evening meal excellent. Very good value overall. We were unable to connect to the wifi. Check-in process provided no information about pool access or wi-fi. We had to ask about dinner at the hotel.

Everything! The room was extremely comfortable and the pillows were the best we’ve experienced in all our travels. The location is perfect for exploring the beautiful town and we enjoyed sitting in the pretty hotel garden too. Everything about the hotel is highly recommended. The owner was very very helpful and kind throughout our stay and his English is also very good. We will definitely be coming back

Great place for an overnight stay, just off the motorway. Clean functional room, very comfortable bed and decent breakfast. Town centre is just a 10/15 minute walk to restaurants and shops or there is a Pizza place very close to the hotel. Good secure car park, so don't need to unload overnight. Would definitely use this hotel again when travelling.
