We had the pleasure of staying at Villa Archanes for one night, and it was a delightful experience. The villa is beautifully designed in traditional Cretan style, and we truly appreciated every detail in our room. It was cozy and inviting, making us feel right at home. The breakfast was a highlight of our stay—delicious homemade orange juice, eggs, and traditional Cretan products that gave us a true taste of the local cuisine. Although we didn't use the small pool, it looked like a perfect spot to relax. Archanes itself is a wonderful village to explore, offering an authentic experience of Cretan life. We enjoyed mingling with the locals, savoring the food, and immersing ourselves in the culture. If you're looking to experience the real Crete, Villa Archanes is an excellent choice!

Eliathos Residence is in a beautiful location, on the edge of the lovely village of Archanes. The gardens are immaculate, the accommodation looks like 4 houses but each is cleverly split into 3 units. Everything is immaculately clean. The staff are friendly, extremely accommodating and helpful. The pool is perfectly cool and has fabulous views over the olive groves and valley. We had a really special 2 weeks here and would definitely recommend it. We found a huge variety of beaches within a 20 mins - 1 hour drive, heading West and East along the coast. Historic sites, museums, tavernas and shops were also within easy reach.

The villa was stunning, new with beautifully modern design, perfectly equipped, very clean and shows great attention to detail. Everything was wonderful, but especially managment and the staff was amazing. I had to change my dates twice because of flight cancellations and they accommodated them right away and also stayed late to wait for me when I missed my connecting flight. They also offered to arrange a pick-up at the airport, but because I had a rental car, didn't need it. The room was amazing, with its unique wooden interior and scent. Very cozy. It was only a twenty miunte drive from the airport and easy to find. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Archanes is located right in the middle of nowhere.

Archanes is located right in the middle of nowhere. Okay, it's quite close to Heraklion and the Palace of Knossos. But if you want to go to the beaches, you have a choice between terribly crowded beaches around Heraklion, and God forbid, Malia... probably the most disgustingly overcrowded beach we've ever seen, or the beaches on the south of the island, which are accessible through winding mountain roads that can be quite challenging to navigate with a weak engine, like the Peugeot 108 we rented. The best option is the beaches to the west of Matala, which are a bit over an hour away via Road 97 through Heraklion, leading to Kommos Beach just west of Matala. Matala, although charming, is terribly crowded, while Kommos offers a wide expanse of pebbles with an incredible stereo effect: the sound of waves and the "singing" of cicadas. So you can spend a day at Kommos Beach, having quite a spacious area around you and only the sounds of nature, and in the evening, you can go to Matala for dinner, enjoying a charming but not as spectacular as the Polish Baltic Sea sunsets.

Archanes is a beautiful village not far from Iraklion.

Archanes is a beautiful village not far from Iraklion. It has great restaurants, beautiful scenery a well curated archaeological museum and many nearby attractions including Knossos. We stay here each time we come to Crete as it is a really relaxed Cretan village. It is accessible by car and bus from Iraklion. Narrow laneways and hilly terrain make it a walker’s dream location.
