A small and quiet town between the capitol of Iceland and some of the main tourist sites. Right on the way to Skógafoss and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, and Diamond Beach. There is a street food truck run by a nice man and woman. Definitely check it out!

Such a fab place to stay. Waterfall up the road.
Such a fab place to stay. Waterfall up the road. The ferry to the Waterman Islands is 30 mins away; you must visit the puffin and Beluga sanctuary on the islands. You have Vik only an hour away and you see volcanos and mountains everywhere you look. The airport is 1hr45mins away and a wonderful drive. I would happily stay here again.

Hella a bit sparse.
Hella a bit sparse. No good restaurants that we found and they stop serving at 9pm. Not much to Hella but it was in the countryside and we saw the Northern Lights. Our hotel was well lit so we could find it but they would not turn off the lights to view the Northern Lights better.

Small central town, great for staying at the igloos, and...
Small central town, great for staying at the igloos, and great for going all round. So nice to go east to Vik for the Katla ice caves, skogafoss and the waterfall hike, and Vik beach and west for kerid crater and blue lagoon and then north for gullfoss and the geysers. The town itself has a small supermarket, nice bakery and okay places to eat. Looks pretty with the mountains to the side.

We were not happy with the accommodation.
We were not happy with the accommodation. The front desk staff were disorganized. We were told a day before check that we would have 2 cabins instead of the 2 rooms we booked in the main hotel. When we arrived we were told we would get 2 cabins. When we checked I across the street, we were told we had one cabin which was a downgrade for us. One adult had to sleep in an upper bunk bed and the cabin was smelly , some windows did not fully close and the main door did not lock. We were quite disappointed in the accommodations. The cabin was not in good shape. We specifically booked 2 rooms to get 2 bathrooms period. Based in all of this, we would like to request a partial refund.

Extremely lousy management, relocated and downgraded to s cabin nearby with no wifi, handwash or toiletries. Reason given- overbook, well not a acceptable reason in 2023! Avoid at any cost, overpriced for bad service

We had a gorgeous week long stay here. Perfect base for exploring south Iceland. All golden circle locations are within an hour and a half. Selfoss is close which has all big supermarkets and there’s a small supermarket in Hella. Everything you could need including the little things self catering accommodation often forgets like coffee maker and ladle etc. Wr loved the staff dogs Kara and Balti. My 6 year old son loved rolling down the grass hill. Great to chat Larus and maybe we will be back.

I loved the place! It was our favourite house in our Icelandic trip. We were family of 5 and this house outside of Hella is just a paradise. Hot-tub is just lovely to have and Linda is wonderful to talk, very quick in replying. All was just perfect and I would love to come back! Kitchen is so stylish, Kjarval book of paintings was great to read and bathrobes were a cherry on top. I highly recommend this oasis. Takk fyrir!

I love the location next to the river. It was so nice and quiet. The cabin/bungalow was compact and has all basic necessities. Due to the good weather, I was able to see the nothern lights from the river bank.
And in a country like Iceland, it was nice to stay at a more affordable place. Price/quality for this place is good.

Hotel is located right off of major roads, right across the street from the bus-stop for trips to Thorsmork and Landmannalaugar. Comfortable clean modern aesthetics. Absolutely fantastic restaurant - best meal I've had in Iceland.

We did not stay at Ranga Riverside Cottages. We were moved to Hella Hotel. The staff were very accommodating in helping us make a smooth transition.
