The hosts were so friendly, and made sure we weren't lost by coming to meet us. Formia is a charming little town, with a delightful labyrinth of alleys in the old part. It made an excellent staging post for us, travelling from the south to the north by train, because the railway comes back to the sea here before making its way inland again. The flat is very close to the station.

Formia is a great place to visit, it has it all, beaches,...
Formia is a great place to visit, it has it all, beaches, restaurants, bars and lots and lots of history. Cisternone Romano Is a must see and only takes about 30 minutes, there are many Roman ruins and artefacts to see. The local wine shops are great and you can get fresh wine by the litre for less than €2!
Olives and buffalo mozzarella are the best in the area and on sale everywhere (Itri and Gaeta make the best) the beaches are great and most have a lido bar and facilities costing around €15 to €25 for umbrella and 2 loungers for the day.

Great place to get the ferry to Ventotene and islands or if you want to go the beaches between there and Gaeta. Also a good stop off en route to anywhere along the coast between Rome and Naples as you also have the train station. Something about the back streets and where we went for a really authentic tasty meal( very popular with locals) had the spirit of Naples.

Formia isn't much of a town.
Formia isn't much of a town. I ate very well at the Miramare restaurant, a very elegant and luxurious establishment. The waiter was very courteous and knowledgeable about the wines. At the end, the chef even stopped by and offered us some homemade desserts: excellent.

The sea is beautiful and lifeguards are available, but there are too many private beach clubs, even on the few public beaches where they rent umbrellas and lounge chairs without respecting other people's privacy (across the entire coastline in the area). Too much trash on the beaches and too few bins...it's a disrespect for the environment, what a shame!

A vibrant town with good services, and if you don't want to drive, public transportation goes pretty much everywhere. The people are friendly. There are also several places of interest nearby, such as nearby Gaeta. The beaches are reasonably well-equipped, and the sea is easily accessible.

Apartment: This is the best apartment I've stayed in in all of my 8 trips to Italy. The apartment is beautifully done with all facilities one would need, comfortable and large beds, kitchen and even blackout blinds. The large terrace overlooking the sea is an added bonus, and we enjoyed our coffees and aperitivos on the terrace. The location is also very convenient and nearly everything in Formia is a short walk from the apartment.
Host: G is very responsive and helpful and has some great local tips as well!

The property was spacious and beautifully presented. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had a full range of coffee options. Francesca was a wonderful host and helped us out organising taxis and a bike. The view and terrace were amazing, and it was easy access to the beach. It was around 30mins walk to the centre of Formia, so was peaceful and quiet in the evenings.

Luigi was a very welcoming host and told me many things I hadn’t known about Formia. Lovely room on the second floor of a 1950/60’s apartment building. Excellent location.
