The Simplicity of the Emerald Coast
Olbia is all about the sea, and what a glorious turquoise sea it is. As the gateway to Sardinia’s stunning Emerald Coast, this down-to-earth town is often overlooked in favour of the more glamorous resorts. However, it does have attractions of its own.
The simple Basilica of San Simplicio dates to the 11th century and the Church of St Paul the Apostle is also medieval. The National Archaeology Museum houses Roman ships, as well as prehistoric artefacts from the surrounding area.
Sardinia has a wealth of prehistoric structures and one of these – the Tomba dei Giganti Su Monte‘e S’Abe – is near Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport and medieval Pedres Castle. Across the bay is Sa Testa Sacred Well, dating to at least 1200 BC.
Along the coast in Pittulongu are the real attractions – fantastic, unspoilt beaches from where you can see rocky Tavolara Island, a popular diving site. In summer, boats sail there from Isola Bianca Harbour, the arrival point of ferries from the Italian mainland. The harbour’s fishing boats are responsible for the fantastic mussels in Olbia’s seafood restaurants, some of which are amid bars and shops on Corso Umberto – the locals’ favourite passeggiata spot.

You definitely need a car to get around but the cost is...
You definitely need a car to get around but the cost is definitely worth it. The area is lovely and a boat trip to La Maddalena is a must. Photos do not do justice to the crystal clear turquoise water and unspoiled beaches. This is high praise coming from someone who rarely goes to the beach!
This stay was my first and hopefully not my last but I would have stayed longer if I could have.
We enjoyed good meals in various places including a recommended restaurant at a small beach which was atmospheric with a beautiful view. I don’t think you can go wrong wherever you choose to eat.
The place feels safe and the people are friendly and polite.

Olbia can be a good base for the main tours of the island.
Olbia can be a good base for the main tours of the island. Is right next to La Tavolara, close to Costa Smeralda, 30 min to wineries in Vermentino di Gallura, 1 hour from Palau and La Madalena, and 1h30 from Orosei and Baunei coasts. It is also a better city than I expected. The farthest is La Pelosa, but still at 2h hour drive. The town center is quite small, but pleasant to walk and visit. Many good restaurants too

We did not spend time in the town.
We did not spend time in the town. Instead we went to the beach and used local hiking trails. The area is still unspoiled and not over developed. I recommend using bug spray if out on extended walks on coastal trails.The archeological museum was closed for renovations. I would return to this area to see it and to see the large forest park further north.

The harbour and plaza areas are beautiful as are the two main churches. There is a great park with lots of play and sport facilities for all age groups. - across the road from the Martini hotel. There are also children's play areas situated along the harbour front
There are numerous really good Italian and fish restaurants.
There is a good selection of craft, souvenir and clothes shops to suit all budgets,
We would have liked to have visited the museum but there were conservation conferences being held there the week we were visiting.
We visited the small harbour front market and the larger Saturday market.
During our week-long stay we spent one day at Mamas beach and took bus trips to a few of the small villages nearby, but to fully appreciate the beauty of Sardinia I would recommend hiring a car.

Olbia is the best place to stay if you want to see and travel the north-east coast of Sardegna. You will be in driving distance from Cala Golorite and from other amazing beaches that must be seen while on the island

I well tell you one thing, this is the most decent hotel in the area, we booked delta by marriott and left immediately, it was so horrible the hotel and rude staff, so we left and lost the reservation but it was worth it. Also, no beach, far from the town in the middle of a horrible area. Taxi recommended Pelican and took us there, it's first raw right in the sea, and the good time started there, enjoy.

Great, cosy place if you are looking for a relaxing stay that is the one. it is 20min drive from Olbia and no more than 30-40min drive from all the great beaches around. The fixed menu at the restaurant is perfect if you want to try traditional Sardinian cuisine. Monica and Alicia were great hosts!! We would definitely come back again.

The accommodation is modern and well equipped. We had a very pleasant stay and felt almost at home. We especially appreciated the rooftop terrace, where you can enjoy both sunrise and sunset. The location is excellent—close to the beach, restaurants, and a grocery store. This part of Olbia is quiet and peaceful.
