We arrived at Orvieto by train and caught the Funicular up to the town. It was very straight forward and fun. Once up the top you can catch the bus to the Duomo main square however there is really no need as the walk is very straight forward up Corso Cavour and you can see the shops & restaurants on the way. Orvieto is a beautiful little town. The Cathedral is grand and the façade is one of the most attractive we have seen. The views from Fortezza Albornoz are spectacular.
The narrow streets dotted with bars, restaurants and flowers are beautiful.
There are numerous bars and restaurants to choose from. We visited at the end of May and the weather was perfect and not too busy.

It is a small but beautiful etrurian and medieval city sourrounded by cliffs. Worth to wander along the pebbled roads and have a meal in any of the restaurants. Beautiful romanesque cathedral.
Parking lots located outside the city with elevators to enable easy access to the city.

Orvieto shouldn't be missed on a trip to Umbria.
Orvieto shouldn't be missed on a trip to Umbria. It's quite a beautiful town.
I'd like to apologize to the host 'Enzo' for my initial review. I was in a grumpy (tired) mood and he did try his best to accomodate us with his suggestions. I liked his secure parking. Thank you, Vincenzo. Visiting the town was easy to do. We ate at 'Il Mercato'; excellent food and service. The Duomo is unreal. Gorgeous facade.

The stupendous Duomo of Orvieto is on top of the list of places to visit. The cathedral commemorates the Miracle of the Eucharist in Bolsena-droplets of blood that stained the altar linen, made some time in the1260’s. According to the Bradt Guide for Italy, Umbria & The Marche regions, “A Bohemian priest named Peter, was on his way to Rome, was asked to celebrate mass in Bolsena, just to the south. Father Peter had long been skeptical about the doctrine of the Host becoming the body of Christ during the mass, but the Host itself answered his doubts by dripping blood on the altar linen. Peter took the linen to the Pope (Urban IV) and he declared it a miracle and instituted the Feast of Corpus Christi. Pope Urban IV promised Orvieto (rather unfairly to Bolsena) a magnificent new cathedral. “
The exterior façade of this gothic cathedral, has mosaics depicting the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary, etc. with stunning gold backgrounds, that glow in the afternoon sun. The interior has cycles of frescos throughout, painted Fra Angelico, Luca Signorelli, Perugino, Piero della Francesca, to name a few.
The other most remarkable attraction in Orvieto is the Viaggio nella “Città Sotterranea”, the Orvieto Underground tours. We took an fascinating, evening tour given in English by a local guide. Tours can be booked through an office near to the cathedral in Piazza Duomo. As the brochure notes “Orvieto Underground is the best way to become acquainted with this new, unusual aspect of a culture of a city that abounds in history and outstanding art treasures. The tour takes you along a winding subterranean path through tunnels, stairs, unexpected passageways, superimposed rooms, with innumerable small square niches, all of which bear witness to creation over the centuries of this “city underground”.

People who just do a day trip from Rome miss out on exploring the romantic little town and really getting a feeling for the history of it.
3 - 4 days is jsut right if you want to walk around the entire town once and do all the sightseeing and relax at the same time.
You will laugh, but my fridge was outside between my window and shutters, I had breakfast at my window and grabbed pizza as take away in town. I have got a fear to get lost in big cities - so Orvieto is perfect - you just stroll around everywhere and when you want to get hoem you ask : " Duomo ? " and peopl;e point you in the right direction. :)
The well is super interesting, the dome was great, the Etruscan museum and walking around the bottom of the town.

The hostess where i stayed is wonderful.
The hostess where i stayed is wonderful. She gave me restaurant tips. I went to two restaurants and cafes too. They were all good.
Orvieto is wonderful to walk around with beautiful scenery, interesting history and great shops. Top quality beautiful goods. Leather and ceramics and clothing all top quality. A magical experience awaits at one shop with armour outside.
The whole town is a photographers dream and the views of the surrounding countryside are amazing. Especially from the clock tower. Beautiful walks along well kept paths overlooking the countryside.
The Duomo is stunning and there are many galleries, museums and historic places to visit. Easy to walk around. A funicular ride up is special.
The underground tour is so interesting.
This hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from the train station, with the last half of the walk being up a steep hill. My room was good-sized and even had a balcony with chairs and bistro table. Bathroom was large with good water pressure. My room was very quiet at night. If you’re feeling energetic, you can continue walking up a steep pathway for another 10 minutes to the beautiful hilltop section of Orvieto. I appreciated the staff starting breakfast early for me one day so I could catch the 8:00 bus to Bagnoregio. Breakfast was abundant!
Chiara e Benedetta is such a hidden gem. The view is just divine - a quintessential Italian view and the room homely. Ros and her staff all extremely friendly and go out of their way to help, making restaurant recommendations and even taking me to the train station when I left. The breakfast is plentiful and delicious and includes home made baked treats.
It was a spur of the moment decision to say here and away from the big cities of Italy for a couple nights and I am so glad I did. I loved exploring Orvieto and will definitely be back.
This was a great discovery finding this hotel in the heart of Orvieto at a reasonable price. The location was perfect and an easy walk to all the major sites in Orvieto. The rooms were spacious with modern conveniences, especially the bathrooms.
The room with the balcony and kitchen area was perfect for our needs. I found the cleaning staff excellent as they freshened up our rooms daily and Luis was an excellent host, who arranged secure parking nearby for our car. A perfect place to stay when visiting this amazing Umbrian city.
The location was perfect to explore the area around Orvieto. We hired electric bikes and had a brilliant day. We enjoyed the walk up to Orvieto via the old town gate (steep but lovely views). We also used the funicular. It is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel and fun, cheap and quick to use. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff very friendly. Excellent breakfast. Really handy being so close to the station.
A nice spacious apartment with fantastic location in the heart of Orvieto. The host was very nice, helpful and responsive. View from the apartment is amazing of the Duomo. Beds were comfy and facilities were good in the apartment. The Tourist Information office in the Piazza del Duomo was very good and showed us on a map the location of the property and gave us a good overview of the town. Wifi is good.
Great location just a few minutes walk up from the funicular. No need for the bus at the top. It's in a hidden alley that is a little tough to find but we got there. Katia is a great host, comfortable beds, and plenty to eat nearby. Bathrooms are a little small but that is standard for Italy. Very quiet. Porch area is very pleasant. My kids always like bunk beds! We would absolutely return!
The apartment is very clean and nicely fitted out in a great location in central Orvieto.
Our host was very kind and helpful.
The location is close to the Duomo so on a busy street but not noisy because of the double glazing.
You can’t really sit on the balcony but it’s an ideal spot to stand and watch everything going on.
I recommend this apartment as it’s very comfortable.

Grazie e Ci Vediamo!!
Nice stay felt like you are in your Italian relatives home. Very clean and you can tell they’ve updated the kitchen, and it’s supplied too. Loved the artwork of Orvieto on walls and the dog pillows. The little terrace is nice and the duomo view is wonderful. Parking at the duomo was convenient. The location is very central.
It was great for one night. The receptionist was very kind and helpful. The breakfast was also nice. Of course it’s not a fancy hotel but the Wifi worked perfectly, everything was clean and it’s close to the funicullar which takes you directly to the beautiful village orvieto. I would stay there again.
The location is perfect. The garage is close by, only a few minutes walk. The apartment is really lovely, the kitchen is very well equipped. The beautiful Duomo of Orvieto is a few minutes away and many nice restaurants, too. Carla is a very friendly and attentive host.
Amazing location right at the heart of Orvieto! Few steps away from Duomo. The apartment was clean, spacious and comfortable. Everything you need is there, and a local supermarket is nearby as well. Highly recommend staying in Casa Dolce Casa! 😊
Centrally located in an amazing town . Orvieto is a special town to visit in Italy and Casa Ginerva is a perfect place to stay. The owner was incredibly helpful to find suitable parking and very helpful at check-in. Highly recommend.
Can't praise enough this hotel. The staff was hospitable, the rooms were clean. The hotel was peaceful and quiet, the breakfast was a great selection and the location of the hotel is prime since it's just adjacent to the Duomo.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel for the room size and cleanliness, comfortable bed, and fantastic location near the Duomo. Excellent value for the money. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Orvieto.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast. Above all, beautiful and peaceful garden overlooking the surrounding area. Best place I have stayed in Italy so far.
Great location despite no view. Clean linen and towels. Good heating. Reasonable price compared to Orvieto hotels. Very quiet. Lovely brick ceiling above comfortable bed.
