An artistic gem, Padua (or Padova in Italian) seamlessly combines awe-inspiring heritage and a modern vibe. Counting Galileo among its former tutors, the University has the world’s oldest UNESCO World Heritage-listed botanical garden.
Across the road is huge Prato della Valle, a green square with a canal lined by 78 statues, and home to a Saturday market. A market is also held in squares near to Palazzo della Ragione whose multi-levelled arches and vaulted wooden ceiling are an impressive sight. Cobbled, porticoed streets lead to the finely-crafted Gran Loggia and clock tower.
Every church has incredible décor, but the most famous is Saint Anthony of Padua, boasting the bones of the saint, an impressive 7 cupolas and 4 cloisters. The square in front has a statue by Donatello. Padua Cathedral's simple exterior houses amazing frescoes inside the baptistery by Giotto, creator of the jewel in Padua’s crown – the Scrovegni Chapel. His 14th century frescoes there have been meticulously restored to be as vibrant as the day they were painted.
The closest airport is Venice Marco Polo, but before you head there from your Padua hotel, apartment or B&B take time to enjoy the narrow streets around Palazzo del Bò or the Jewish district.

Beautiful and quieter town.
Beautiful and quieter town. The hospitality at the local restaurants and cafes are outstanding. Most younger generations very welcoming and speaking well in English. It was my first travel alone in Italy. Even without speaking any Italian, it was very easy for me to navigate by foot and public transports. I had a great experience and felt really safe waking alone on the streets.

Padova was a really interesting city with several UNESCO world heritage sites (book ahead). It was very easily walkable to all the heritage sites, bars, restaurants and other attractions. Shopping and the markets were great and prices were excellent. I loved the Kiss of Judas live exhibition all over the city and the exhibitions at the various Palazzos. - I was amazed to see original Picasso paintings at the Palazzo Zabarello, along with Joan Miro and many other notable artists.
The city is a day trip away from Venice so the middle of the day can be manic!

Padova has a bustling historic centre and nice parks. It's easy to grasp the city by walking. The frescoes from 14th century are outstanding - especially in the Scrovegni chapel and Sant'Antonio. Entrance fees are sometimes pretty high and you need to book in advance (for instance Scrovegni) or need to join group guiding, so you need to plan in advance.

College town with nice squares, historic buildings, museums and university without all the tourists. No big tourist groups or buses. Felt more like a real livable city with a local community. Prices for food and drinks were very reasonable relative to the more popular tourist locations.

This hotel is absolutely wonderful. The actual hotel we stayed was at a different location than the reception area, but they offered to keep our luggage there until check in, which was super helpful. I think we booked some sort of penthouse, since the room was huge! It had a big modern bathroom, massive terrace, and super comfortable bed. The location was perfect, next to all the beautiful sights Padova has to offer.

Lovely boutique hotel in the center of Padova. A lot of restaurants, bars and historical landmarks are just out the door. When we visited the weather was hot hot hot ..escaping to the best air con and lovely room was heaven. The staff are amazing..nothing is a problem. Breakfast was delicious with endless Illy coffee.
