The views from the room was fabulous and we managed to catch the sunset and sunrise. Getting to the property is via the rope way but manageable if you just take a cab from the train station. The town itself is nice but not too special. Plenty of good places to eat and many shops, but the main attraction is the startof the Shimanami Kaido bike route of course, it is gorgeous and highly recommended!

Onomichi is a picturesque and walkable city with lots of charm. You can stroll the vintage shotegai, visit the art museum, enjoy a snack at Onomichi U2, take a temple walk, ride the ropeway, and of course, biking the Shimanami Kaido. The people are friendly and the food and shopping are great.

Because I got in late from doing the big bike ride over from Imabari, I was left with little time or energy to explore Onomichi. However, I did do some of the temple tour in the morning and it was excellent. I recommend taking the "ropeway" (I'd call it a cable car) to the hilltop and work your way down. I'd love to come back and explore more of this interesting little town.

It’s also has great walks , shopping ,places to eat and the walk along the waterfront and boardwalk is wonderful. Enjoy a meal or a drink .
Catch the ferry to the islands and explore on foot or bike.

Onomichi was a quiet town with lots of small alleys to explore. One full day should be enough to get a taste of the location for younger travelers.
But two days at the town should also be good if you would like to take your time or if there are elderly in the group.

Such a beautiful little town with really friendly residents who genuinely welcome and enjoy travellers. Lots to do in the day, a bit quite at night though so don’t rely on there being restaurants open for dinner. I loved Onomichi. I only spent one day and one night there before beginning the Shimanami Kaido cycle, but I wish I’d stayed and relaxed a bit more is this wonderful town. The temple walk was worth the views, cat alley was unique and worth seeing, I loved just grabbing a coffee or pastry and sitting on the pier to enjoy the view.

Often in Japan, rooms are quite small, but this one was very large, clean, modern, very comfortable bed, interior well designed and practical (nice bench at the window with sight on the beautiful lobby), very nice bathroom.
The two owners were very nice, both speak very good english, they serve great breakfast and the coffee was also great.
One of our best hotels during our stay in Japan. :) (and Onomichi is a hidden gem as well, we were so happy to have spent there a night and checking put the city before traveling further)

Nice traditional guest house in Onomichi's main street. We had a japanese style room, very big compared to our other hotels in our trip in Japan. Slept on a futon on the floor. No mattress. The shared showers need an urgent update. There are no proper bathrooms (with their proper sinks, mirrors...). Not suitable for those looking for hotel-like services and confort.

Hotel Cycle in Onomichi is a great place to start the Kumano Kodo. The seaside location is unbeatable and our room was both stylish and comfortable. Loved the in-room kettle, spacious bathroom, and cozy beds.
