PhilippinesLocation was fairly near the JR Takayama Station. A bus station is also nearby. Restaurants are a walking distance. I really liked their initiative to put together a tourist guide for Takayama which can be found in the lobby. The guide was very comprehensive in suggesting activities, destinations and food to try during your stay in Takayama. Twin Room was also fairly large for a Japanese Hotel. Facility was clean and would definitely stay here again. Staff has been really helpful, warm and accommodating.

FijiWe loved our stay at Hotel Wood Takayama and it would be a dream to return one day!. The room was peaceful and relaxing. The breakfasts arrived like a boxed present, so gorgeous. We couldn’t get over the free sake, beer and drinks during the evenings, amazing! The location is the best, a family mart is nearby and it’s within walking distance of everything that the old town has to offer, shops and dining. I hope we can return one day.

IndonesiaThis was our best room during our 10 days family trip in Japan. It says 2 bed room apartment, but in reality you have a complete apartment: 2 bed rooms with each 2 double beds + living room with another sofa bed that could takes 1-2 people, so it was spacious. Full kitchen, washing machine (free with detergent, drying). 10-15 minutes walk from Takayama JR station, for check in yes you need to go to nearby Wat Hotel and reception staff was very helpful despite language issue. For car driver, they even provide a free parking lot. Highly recommended.

We love this town and have visited it before.
We love this town and have visited it before. It’s charming but not twee; historic but not precious. There is so much to see and do in town, not to mention in the surrounding area. We never seem to have enough time to see and do everything that we planned. We will return!

Takayama is a beautiful small city, very walkable with a chill retro vibe. It’s a great base for day trips to kamikochi, shin hotaka ropeway and shirakawa-go! We underestimated how much time we needed for the day trips and exploring Takayama city properly. We stayed for two days and wished we could’ve had three or four instead.

Hida Takayama is a charming city. With lots of historic and cultural sightseeing spots, delicious local cuisine and tasty Japanese small sweets, it offers visitors so many fantastic choices to relax. In the day time, visitors can start their day with a special breakfast at the morning market. Then
take a tour bus and let it show you around to take a look at the small city or just take a walk along the well-preserved ancient streets. No matter what season it is, this small place always attracts a great number of travelers to visit it every year.

The town is small, without any striking landmarks, but many old houses have been preserved. The town's residents have long been engaged in carpentry. There are good porcelain shops. The surrounding area is full of fascinating sights, including the village of Shirakawago and the mountains with their hot springs. I recommend eating in Suzuya - It's popular, so you need to arrive a few minutes before they open. I recommend drinking morning coffee in
Sanu coffee stand. There is truly good European coffee here

We chose Takayama as a stopover on the way to Hirayu Onsen, so it was a very brief stay. I would love to stay longer as while we were on a short walk around I saw a lot of wood carving workshops, which I'd love to explore

It is a lovely location.
It is a lovely location. It has a looped walk that shows multiple shrines and the old castle, watch out for the bears. There is an old street with wooden houses, it is a bit of a tourist trap and the shops are over priced but it is worth seeing. The museum is interesting and we met a lovely old man that guided us around. The street market was interesting.

Traditional Japanese Ryokan with nicely decorated rooms. This was my first Ryokan experience and I have never felt as well cared for as during my stay there. Futon was very comfortable, too (I have never slept on one before). Staff is very attentive and helpful. Great inhouse onsens. Yukata were available for free for guests. Many ammendities were available for free and I loved their shampoo. Takayama old city center is just a 15 min walk away. Takayama station is just 6 min away by foot.

Perfect for spending one or two nights relaxing. Sit in your private onsen and watch the trees in the evening eat the dinner at the hotel. It is a sumptuous six course Japanese meal. Between sashimi, great sushi and hida beef you won’t be disappointed. The price is well worth it!
You can easily reach it by bus from takayama and it is a nice walk to the hirayu waterfall.
Definitely recommended for some peace and quiet.

The friendly staff who were able to communicate in English. To be greeted with happy faces in the morning made my stay very pleasant.
Buffet breakfast had western & Japanese food.
Location of hotel is walking distance to Takayama old town.
Naiwa Sushi within 1 min walk from hotel was a “lesser known” gem for sushi dinner.
Availability of Pte or family onsen was a bonus.

When we arrived we got a warm welcome. Really nice experience to step into an old ryokan. Unfortunately this was only the entrance, the rest of the building is a big themed hotel block. The breakfast was special and lovely. We stayed to night's and we chose to get both nights a Japanese breakfast (both were different). The onsen is small but nice after a day walking.

Location is around 10 to 15 mins walk from Takayama station. Shuttle bus from station to hotel was very convenient. Room with private tub was spot on per the photos. Kaiseki dinner was awesome. Buffet breakfast had extensive selection of Western and Japanese food. Onsen was very good. Definitely will stay again!
