You need to have your own transport, and if possible a guide, to enjoy the city and the sights. There are also decent little restaurants with good prices, even for breakfast. But those who don't like the intense heat shouldn't go out before 5 pm; there's evening entertainment by the sea and some basic but decent restaurants serving local cuisine!

A very beautiful city with stunning scenery, but emotionally...
A very beautiful city with stunning scenery, but emotionally challenging due to widespread poverty. Getting around is very easy with tuk-tuks, and the waterfront is breathtaking. I recommend Cocolodge, Karibou Lodge, and Baobab Tree for meals, and Baobab Tree for the spa.

We are grateful for the hospitality of Norbert and Natalia, taking care of everything we could have imagined. They were helpful in arranging a taxi from the airport, getting us oriented in Mahajanga, calling tuk-tuks, ordering meals, and arranging for us a boat trip - simply said all we could have imagined to need. The place is quiet and well-maintained. The Seaview is fantastic, especially during the sunset.

All was good.
The owner of the hotel is amazing. We had a problem with minibus tickets reservation when planning our trip to Madagascar. The advance reservation required Malagasy mobile number to make a payment. I have asked her for help and everything went smoothly and sucessful. Definitely this type of help is not part of the standard hospitality.
The hotel staff is also very helpful and polite

Lovely stay at Chateaux Yolande! I came to Mahajanga for work (meetings and field site scouting in Grotte Anjohibe) and thoroughly enjoyed my time. Clean rooms, wonderfully welcoming hosts, easy (and free!) airport transfer, excellent WiFi, and shockingly good Italian food in the most surprising location! I would stay again.

Almost everything, I have been staying at this hotel since 2019, in past I had issue with the toilet, but they have made an effort and have improved the toilets decoration, well done.
