Kota Kinabalu is a beautiful city with amazing waterfront views, friendly locals, and plenty of nice cafes and seafood restaurants. It’s a great place to relax and explore nature. However, I found the food prices to be higher than expected — generally pricier than in Penang or Kuala Lumpur. Other than that, it was an enjoyable trip and I’d love to visit again someday.

It is an exotic city, offer many experience, it was nice to have the blend of a city but yet you can watch the fishing boats coming back to shore from their catch and visitors taking speed boats to island opposite KK, if you unit is sea facing, you can see this at your balcony while sipping away coffee,teas, fruit juice or even beers

There is no other place like Tanjung Aru Beach in Kota...
There is no other place like Tanjung Aru Beach in Kota Kinabalu when you want to observe sunset. It is iconic (but you need to disregard hundreds of people who want to enjoy the same :-).
You can buy beautiful pearls in this town.
You can visit Mari Mari cultural village from this town. It exceeded our expactations.

For a town of 500,000 people there should be many more...
For a town of 500,000 people there should be many more waterfront restaurants available to tourists and local population. National Museum was closed, the observation tower was closed and the Cultural village did not look genuine (plastic flowers used all over the village!?). I would recommend a max. stay of 2 days + 1 day for islands visit.

This was my first time in Kota Kinabalu.
This was my first time in Kota Kinabalu. I came for a program, but since I arrived earlier, I decided to explore KK and Kundasang. Even though it was a last-minute booking with Wisata Travel Agency, the accommodation and guide they arranged were excellent.
✨ Favourite places: In KK, I enjoyed the city vibes and food around 1Borneo Mall. In Kundasang, the highlights were the fish spa, rabbit farm, Desa Dairy Farm, and of course a stop at Pekan Nabalu — a picturesque spot with breathtaking views of Mount Kinabalu and local stalls selling souvenirs and snacks.
🍴 Where I ate: One memorable stop was trying the famous kepak ayam madu Wak Ali — really delicious! Around KK, it was easy to find food because there are so many choices, from local eateries to restaurants.
🚗 Getting around KK: With a guide from the travel agency, it was very convenient. The city is easy to move around with transport arranged, and going up to Kundasang was smooth with their service.
💑 For young couples: I’d recommend Kundasang as a must — the dairy farm, the mountain views, Pekan Nabalu, and even simple stops like the fish spa and rabbit farm create great memories. KK city itself is lively with shopping, cafes, and seaside views. It’s a good mix of nature and city for couples.
Overall, it was a short but meaningful trip, and I’ll remember it as one of the best last-minute adventures I’ve had.

Apartment is clean, spacious and cozy. Rooftop pool is very relaxing. The condo facilities were well maintained and the host was responsive and helpful. The location good, just a short walk to Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal, where to took trips to the nearby islands like Manukan and Sapi. The Waterfront KK promenade is also nearby, with plenty of cafes, bars and local eateries. For shopping, Imago Mall and Gaya Street Market are within a 10 minutes drive.

We had an excellent stay at this little gem in KK. The location is great and the facilities were everything we needed. The room was incredibly clean, the wifi was great, the amenities were 5 star. The team running this hybrid homestay/hotel were amazing and incredibly helpful and communicative. we would definitely stay again if we are ever back in KK.
