ItalyThis hotel was really great: rooms were beautiful and well equipped with all the necessary for a pleasant stay, bathroom was spacious, too, and offered all kind of toiletries, a hair dryer, plenty of towels...
Breakfast was rich and offered a lot of different options: from the traditional Malaysian one (laksa, noodles, rice....) to more "international" dishes - English breakfast, toasted bread with kaya, jam, peanut butter, cereals...
Location is perfect to explore the heart of Kuching, and is easily reachable also by Grabs and taxis in general.
But what really stole my heart was the availability and kindness of Meritin staff.
Since in Kuching there are no luggage storage options (well, I did not find any even if I tried), it was natural to ask Meritin if they could store our stuff between our two stays there (we slept here on 12th and on 14th, but on 13th night we were in Batang Ai region, taking in part in 2 days - 1 night excursions and using Kuching as our base).
Not only they kept our stuff on 13th night, but they also allowed us to take our baggage there BEFORE our first booking there... on our really first night in Kuching (10th) we were staying in a different hotel and on 11th we were sleeping in Bako National Park, but Meritin allowed us to leave our luggage in their lobby starting from 10th so we could easily retrieve our baggage at the hotel after our 2 days in Bako!
If it's not great service, I really don't know what I should call it!

PolandVery nice place in heart of Kuching. Location is perfect, just next to the new chinatown. Staff is amazing, very kind and friendly, also very helpful. Breakfast is good with broad variety of products. Room is spacious enough, well equipped with kettle, fridge and TV with many international channels.
Tip: if you would like to try some local cuisine you should visit super tasty big veggie, 5 min walk from the hotel in new Chinatown

Underrated destination.
Underrated destination. We ended up picking Sarawak over Sabah largely due to logistical reasons, but didn’t regret it for a second. Kuching itself is fairly small and quiet, but worth spending a couple days looking around. The Borneo Cultures Museum is fascinating in its subject matter, and world class in execution— great design, well written texts in English, and cool interactive installations. The city history and cat museum is quirky and cute, and there are loads of cat statues around town. The orchid garden is free, and certainly worth a look. The biggest selling point for Sarawak for me is that anything in the Kuching region is doable as a day trip. We rented a car for most of our stay, and went to Semenggoh, Bako NP, and the Buddhist Village, all within an hours drive from the city center, and highly recommended. Traffic is anarchic by European standards, but we didn’t encounter any scary or especially unsafe situations. Just keep your wits about you, and stay on the lookout for motorbikes. Not a destination for a beach holiday, but for history, culture, and nature, it was amazing. About a week in the region would be ideal.Guest review byChristian IsaacEstonia - 8.0

Kuching has a lovely river front, plenty of places to eat and stay. Lots of day trips to places of interest, eg Orangutan rescue, rainforest, beach. Ceylonese restaurant nearby Harbour view was excellent. St Peters Cathedral is newly built and worth a visit. I did not take the hotel breakfast but every morning I did go to the coffeehouse just for just coffee, and to my surprise they actually gave us coffee for free for all 3 mornings. This was wonderful. The hotel is 2 minutes walking distance to my conference place in Hilton and also 5 minutes walking distance to the Kuching waterfront.
