Nice location for all sorts of excursions; viewing the close city, going for hikes in the area, visiting the famous Geiranger - which one can do with a 4 h boat trip each way. We found Alesund more interesting than eg. Bergen (which has loads of tourists).

A two night stay gave us one complete day in Alesund.
A two night stay gave us one complete day in Alesund. Well worth walking up the 418 steps to the viewpoint. I would recommend Racoon bakery, delicious cinnamon bun and hot chocolate. Unfortunately the glass studio was temporarily closed.

Ålesund, per se, is not a major attraction.
Ålesund, per se, is not a major attraction. However, this nice city is an excellent starting point to explore the surroundings spectacular fjords, drive the Atlantic road, and eventually go to other regions. That was what we did and it went extremely well.
Weather seems to be colder and wetter here than upper north and on the south of the country, therefore the travelling period should be carefully chosen.

A very pretty town and setting.
A very pretty town and setting. Town mostly rebuilt following devastating fire in 1904, so, many building have Art Nouveau influence. Art Nouveau and Alesund museum both worth a visit. A very walkable small city. Really enjoyed our two days here.

Wonderful little pearl of a city in Norway's west coast. The venice of Norway! Plenty of great good, both street and good restaurants and good beer. Plenty of things to do; hiking, museums, aquarium, etc.

What I liked about Ålesund is that it is a real city (population 59,000) with its own culture and not just a tourist trap consisting of hotels, cafés, and souvenir shops that exist soley for the sake of the cruise ships. Therefore there are several top restaurants in town (which are not cheap, however!) Very popular with the locals as well as out of town visitors. (Restaurants: Bro, Apotekergata No.5, & XL Diner) The historical district is extra-beautiful because of the famous 1904 fire and art nouveau reconstruction which adds special flavor to it unmatched elsewhere. Makes for some cute museums as well. The Aksla viewpoint is a manageable hike and well worth it (418 + steps)! Plenty to do for 2-3 days but a great place also to relax and hang out longer if you are in to boating, walking beautiful streets, side-walk cafés, local culture, etc. Easy access to Geiranger fjord and Troll's Road too!

The hotel was perfectly located for exploring Alesund and beyond. The rooms were comfortable and the staff were welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed the outdoor baths and the breakfast was excellent, catering to all tastes. This was an unexpected second visit to the hotel because of Storm Hans. We had no hesitation in returning.

Great location in the centre. Large size room with really comfortable bed. The breakfast selection was excellent, lots of choice. We managed to get free parking in a road near the hotel during our stay (which was over a Sunday). Lots of good restaurants within walking distance.

Very comfortable room. Fantastic location near centre of Alesund but still quiet (plenty of coach parties though). Easy to park on the street near the hotel. Good breakfast, very wide selection.
