The rooms were spacious, comfortable and private which made my stay perfect. The bathroom facilities were clean and well maintained. There was no breakfast at the hotel, however, the venue was central of all convenient stores along with restaurants within walking distance. The beds were comfortable too; this allowed me to get more rest in peace and feel more rejuvenated. The venue provides a pool directly outside the room which was therapeutic. Parking was conveniently outside my room and. the venue provides a laundry facility. Just like a home away from home I would recommend this beautiful haven to anyone who prefers comfort.

This is absolutely one of the best lodgings we stayed at in New Zealand! The host, Julie, is absolutely warm, helpful and friendly. She stated that the lodge is 'her baby' and it shows. The bed is one of the most comfortable beds we've ever had and the room was furnished with such care and class.

Second time we have stayed here, expectations well met both times. Rural, secluded facility with all you need for a break. Clean and tidy with comfortable bed and brilliant heating (hot water radiators). Eclectic collection of NZ books to read are an added bonus. WiFi was excellent. Contactless (our request, because of medical issues on our part) worked well for us, the hosts are on site but unobtrusive.

This is nice home, beautifully decorated and a wonderful place to stay! Our hosts were very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed our conversations. the home was perfect for our needs and would be great for anyone traveling one night to one week or a month. They have thought of everything here and we didn’t lack for anything. So comfortable, we were immediately put at ease upon arrival and after checking in to the home. Lovely outdoor deck where we enjoyed breakfast and one of the tasty oranges from a tree in the front yard. This is a special place to stay whether traveling solo, as a couple or a family as there is plenty of room to spread out and even games for kids of all ages. The kitchen has all you could need to cook several meals and the laundry has supplies. We would stay here again given the opportunity. Thanks much for a delightful stay!

Beautiful river city.

Beautiful river city. You can bike safely along designated roads or try the mountain bike parks. You can surf at the local beach. Gardens are magic, and the town bustles. Fab cafes all over. Brilliant arts centre, local artists everywhere, and the Sarjeant Art Gallery is sublime. Try the Riverside Markets Kowhai Park also, is a fantastic spot for young and old, to play and picnic. Easy to get around the city.

A bit off the normal tourist track - but well worth the stop...

A bit off the normal tourist track - but well worth the stop over. Great coffee and toasties at Franks restaurant. Lovely Main Street to look at the shops. A large variety of antique shops. The river is very nice to walk along as well.

The Whanganui Museum and the Sergeant Gallery are both worthy of extended visits, they are a highlight for any visitor to the area. The small arts and crafts galleries are interesting and innovative; some very fine and quirky cafes enrich the experience - for any visitor, Whanganui is now one of the most satisfying cultural locations in NZ.

I stayed at Shurinji one night after my flight from Nelson to Wellington on my way to the Tongariro Nationalpark. It felt like a home away from home and was like being part of a family (the two cuddly dogs included) :-) The garden is extraordinary and beautiful. Andrew and Penny took great care of me (I was having trouble with my back) and also gave me some tips what to do around Whanganui (Bushy Park for example was a great tip to see some NZ birds up close). So, a great and beautiful place to stay.

I had initially some hesitation about booking this accommodation, but I have to admit it was excellent. It’s close to the beach….it was very clean, had everything one needs….. which made it all very comfortable. The hostess lives next door and couldn’t be more friendly. I loved it and will definitely recommend it to anyone who plans to visit Whanganui.
