We downloaded a free walking app that we hope picked up all the main sites. However, there were lovely walks along the river banks, plenty of interesting restaurants, the Vinho Verde centre and friendly wine bars; all of which we had no time to sample.

Ponte de Lima is a lovely old town by the side of the River...
Ponte de Lima is a lovely old town by the side of the River Lima. There are plenty of small shops to visit and more than enough restaurants to choose from. Every restaurant we visited was exceptional, with reasonably-priced food and helpful members of staff.
We visited the market while it was here and there was everything you could possibly need on sale. All in all, a great place to say, and we will return.

On a beautiful river with the medieval bridge and the pretty...
On a beautiful river with the medieval bridge and the pretty church on the other side being the distinctive features as we approached along an esplanade of trees. Lots of cafes and restaurants from which to choose. Would recommend finding those in the narrow streets located off the front.

We really enjoyed Ponte de Lima.
We really enjoyed Ponte de Lima. There happened to be the European Canoe Championships and a garden show taking place, so we enjoyed that. Unlike many towns with historic areas, Ponte de Lima’s historic area is right on the river, which makes for a very picturesque experience. We enjoyed the many great restaurants and the night time practice of outlining buildings with little lights- very cool. It was easy to get around town and people were very friendly and welcoming.

Ponte de Lima always has fun events going on.
Ponte de Lima always has fun events going on. It’s unique in that the historic center is right on the river by the Roman bridge. While we were there, the European Canoeing Championships and a Garden Festival were happening, which was fun to watch. Plenty of free parking right at the riverside and a lovely historic district to explore. All the modern conveniences close by. We were very impressed!

Cute town with iconic bridge.
Cute town with iconic bridge. I stayed for a day Easter Monday...the cafes and restaurants ALL closed at 3pm. Made me go into a panic of what to eat for supper, fortunately there was a sort of superette on the main road beside the river, the owner was very helpful in helping me assemble a picnic for less than 5 Euros! and I was able to afford a taxi (11 Euros); the owner went out of his way to escort me to the taxi rank!

It was impeccably clean and well appointed with very comfortable beds and showers, high end appliances and kitchenware, bath products including slippers… like a high end hotel. There are a few bars on the street but the windows kept it soundproof. We really enjoyed the mini deck in the back as well.
The gentleman who received us was lovely and they even left us a bottle of vinho verde and a typical local pastry.
Ponte de Lima itself was a real discovery - a gorgeous town full of history

Truly spectacular and sumptuous accommodation set gloriously above Ponte de Lima with an exceptionally genial and helpful manager (Vitor) who advised us (in perfect English) not just on local eating but on a fun cycle route up either side of the Lima river. It has a superb swimming pool and the breakfast was grand.

The location is lovely, a short drive to Ponte de Lima for shopping, meals out etc, the garden is fabulous, lots of space, listening to the river that flows along side the garden is very relaxing, the pool is amazing, a truly stunning location.

This time we noticed a facelift, mainly in the entrance and breakfast location.
Nice location, by the river.
A must e every time we visit the north of Portugal!
