Tavira is nice, but the stones polished by decades of cars and foot traffic made the sloping sidewalks/roads feel almost treacherous. This is not the location to get away from freezing rain. Some of the old area in the east side is undergoing upgrades to the water system, which means it may be dusty.

Cute little city full of 70 year old tourists.
Cute little city full of 70 year old tourists. Few restaurants other than Indian food. Little shopping. Beaches nice but very difficult to access. Pararia do barrill involves street parking then walking a half mile to a train which will take you 1 mile to the beach for 2eu each way. Or you can walk on a slanted broken walkway all the way. At the beach there is one overpriced restaurant.
Overall Tavira is Not family friendly at all.

We are scoping out retirement options so were looking for walkability and reliable public transportation. Tavira offers both! Local market is full of fresh meat, fish, fruits and vegetables along with wares such as baskets and cut flowers. Lots of restaurants and shops. Walking distance to train which we took to the eastern border then hopped a ferry to Spain for lunch. We opted out of the hotel breakfast and found a cafe across the river for coffee and avocado toast one day, another day we went to the Pingo Doce grocery store for coffee and a breakfast sandwich. We tried a different restaurant for dinner every night and every meal was fantastic. If we had to do it over again, we would not have rented a car. The metro, train and bus system is reliable and comfortable as well as much cheaper and less stressful.

Loved the Friendliness in this nice quaint old town, unfortunately the roads / streets were in process of being dug up & left rather unsafe ( we witnessed a lady falling).. lots of cobbled streets which were left unfinished. Hopefully they will complete soon for travellers & residents to enjoy this lovely town.

Tavira is full of character and has an obvious love of its history and heritage. It offers the opportunity to have a beach holiday without it being forced upon you. Wander down all the back streets and find new places.
We mostly self-catered but there are many restaurants with differing cuisines. Take a punt - it will probably pay off. If you like octopus take a trip to Santa Luzia just 3km away. It is a charming fishing port and the octopus catching centre of Portugal

We've become familiar with Tavira after several visits over recent years. It is a lovely understated destination as a living, breathing 365 days a year town. Not at all touristy, though popular and busy, it's a great base for a sunshine and beach holiday as well as easy access to Spain and onwards. A wide spread of bars and restaurants gives plenty of choice for evening entertainment, and all within short walking distance.
I was very pleased with Ana, Miguel and Magda level of hospitality and they always made me feel warmly welcomed. I felt very fortunate to stay at this location
I could not have asked for anything better as my first place I stayed on my two and half weeks journey in Portugal. It was the perfect welcome after a very long trip from Seattle to Lisbon and then immediately caught the train at the Oriente station Lisbon to Tavira. Thank you, Foksa Guest House!!
We liked everything about this property. We needed a place to relax after a busy 6 days touring around portugal and the OZADI was perfect. There are food and drinks available close to the pool. Poolside was very relaxing. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. It had a nice balcony with view of the pool. There was a great selection of food for breakfast and the roof top seating has spectacular views
The staff were polite, friendly and very helpful. The hotel was very tranquil and peaceful which was great at the end of a month touring and walking Portugal and Spain. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We loved the view from our room, with the garden and the ocean in the background.
The rooftop area was a lovely place to sit with a book, have a drink, and enjoy the room (and the sun!)
A family run small hotel with personal service. the town has grown up around the Quinta but once inside the gates you can relax and enjoy the grounds, the small pool and the tennis court. the breakfast is substantial.
it’s a leisurely modestly downhill walk to the center of tavira and the Roman bridge. a very good restaurant that they recommended Avenida is an easy five minutes away.
The hotel was very nice. Breakfast was very good. The lovely piano playing every morning is an added bonus. The roof top bar and restaurant with fabulous views over Tavira. The entertainment there every night. The roof top bar had the best food we had the whole time we were there . Great location so near the restaurant's bar's and the livelier part of Tavira.
Philippa host us in the junior suite room, who has perfectly clean, nice and comfy. It was huge, with a big bed. the view was amazing. Perfectly calm. The staff are extremely nice. We only stayed two nights but we wanted to stay more. The breakfast is amazing. It was just the best hotel in Algarve. Kids were so happy. Thank you so much Philippa !
Location was superb. In the middle of Tavira, which is a beautiful city to walk in. Hosts were great. Helped w bags. Room was perfect. Restaurant downstairs (same owner) was wonderful. Best steak in years (ribeye). Great staff. Lovely outdoor dining. Lots of other places to try in town, but this one “O Castelo”, was the best.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Azul Sul in October and absolutely loved it. Jose is an amazing host and guide, going above and beyond to make us feel at home. It was out first stop on a week-long road trip in Portugal and I can't imagine a better way to start our trip. We will definitely be back if we get to visit Tavira again.
Loved this property, wonderful friendly helpful staff who sorted a great afternoon boat trip followed by meal on island . At the hotel, delicious surprise evening meals and best hotel breakfast ever tasted . Rooms beautifully appointed and decorated and live singing on roof top terrace meant perfect end to wonderful days .
A charming hotel with charming staff. More than met our expectations. Welcome personal, decor full of old world Portuguese character and seating indoor and out door areas comfortable and luxurious. Location perfect for exploring the town of beautiful Tavira and taking the ferry to the island beach.
Lovely modern hotel. Friendly staff. Excellent food. The large swimming pool with plenty sitting areas if you want your own space. The shuttlebus to Tavira and Cabanas, where you can get the local train if you wanted to venture further along the Algarve.
Lovely, comfortable and nicely decorated place. Everything is carefully thought-out and designed with taste. The hosts are gentle, warm and welcoming. More than recommended, Tavira Inn is quite above the other accomodations in Portugal.
We loved the décor of this hotel, so funky! It was new and very clean. Great location in old town, close to great restaurants and shopping. Very walkable to everything. Parking very convenient. A nice boutique hotel!
Older hotel located on the river. Rooms were small but adequate. Many restaurants, shops and attractions within a 10 minute walk. The ferry terminal to Tavira Island is located in front of the hotel.
my family loved staying at this quiet, clean boutique hotel. the rooms were very comfortable and clean. the staff was very friendly. the breakfast buffet was excellent.
This was the best accommodation I stayed in while in Portugal it was immaculate with a great outdoor space and fantastic location it was very well looked after.
