There just isn't very much to do.
There just isn't very much to do. We needed a night stopover before going to the island and our hotel was nice. Had a tasty pad-thai from the one place that was open and a couple of beers from a very nice bar next to a May-Thai gym. The few streets around the river are lovely and you do get the sense that you're suddenly away from all the tourists and in real Thailand. It is also extremely hot so not particularly pleasant to walk around either. At 8pm everything was shut down, including the night market.

Make sure you stay in town.
Make sure you stay in town. There is no night life, but Trat has great food and a wonderful market. Getting around Trat is not easy, you will have to walk. There are moto taxis but not always where you need them.

Trat is a sleepy provincial town at the edge of the country...
Trat is a sleepy provincial town at the edge of the country bordering Cambodia. Bus is the primary way to get here from Bangkok so this disuades people who feel they must fly to enjoy their vacation on limited time. If going to one of the islands it is likely you will have to stay overnight to go to Cambodia or the islands. Good market, there are places to get good coffee. People are very friendly.

There's perhaps not much to do in the evenings, but during daytime you can walk around discovering traditional Thai food and snacks at very affordable prices. On Saturday afternoon and evening there's a very popular and nice street market. The small lake or water reservoir features a great sunset view and a walkway all around the perimeter.

Check your location. The road can be very difficult even for good, experienced drivers. Parts are very steep and narrow with sharp bends and you need to use first gear in places. No mention of this in the adverts and another time we would use local transport as they are used to the conditions and know the roads, especially dangerous when dark and always dark after 6pm so be aware! Very nice beaches and food and some areas have beach entertainment with a live fire show in the evenings. Plenty of activities, we enjoyed kayaking on the beach. There are viewpoints marked for excellent photos. Would like to stay longer next time.

The owner was helping with every question and helping us to book a taxi from the airport and to Trat boat, she even booked our ferry for us. We got a shared cab and it was cheaper. Very honest lady.
Spiritless and cleans and well run. Perfect! We would stay again. Charming little Thai town. Had Thai boxing at the town festival whilst there. Great impromptu evening on a stop over.
River outside our room, table and chairs. A hard bed area for yoga or meditating was great.

Everything very clean, close to main center of Trat but quiet. Nice cafè around the corner. The room is spacious as is the bathroom. We just stayed for one night. The bed is very hard, as typical in Thailand. For this price you can't wish for any better.

We stayed en route to Koh Mak. The hotel was exactly as expected. The service was great and the room was comfy and clean. The pool was fab. There's tonnes of places to eat and drink nearby.

The owner was very welcoming and could not have been more helpful. If you are stopping in Trat, this hotel would be very hard to beat. The rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable.
