Bend is in a lovely area, where the mountains meet the high desert, with great hiking trails in town and the surrounding area. Also decent cultural attractions including a nice outdoor amphitheater during warm weather months. If you like the outdoors, you'll love Bend. Bend has changed a lot over the years since my first time there 30+ years ago. Then I would consider it the mecca of Oregon. Now, it's over populated, traffic is horrible and it's totally lost its charm. The Portland/Vancouver area has just as much to offer outdoor-wise and it's 3 hours closer to the coast, though Portland in particular has horrible traffic problems.Guest review byJamesUnited States - 10

It has grown in popularity and can be a bit overwhelming at times and prices are fairly high but the experience is amazing! Besides comfortable and well equipped rooms our hosts took us on a kajak tour and invited us to an excellent BBQ dinner. Darcey provides guests day and night with snacks, drinks or fruit. Their huge property adjoins the Deschutes river and provides fantastic views of the river and its natural environment with deer, eagles and jumping fish.
