We traveled to the Finger Lakes from Indiana. We made overnight stops in Eire on both legs of the trip. We had meals and fueled both times. Fuel was reasonably priced.
Erie is a great stop over on I-90.

Erie is my hometown and return each summer.
Erie is my hometown and return each summer. The Peninsula is nice, Waldameer amusement and water park is great for families, fishing and boating are popular, lots of shopping on Upper Peach Street. The zoo is very nice, plenty of golf courses, The Warner Theater rivals anything that I've been to in NYC, several independent restaurants and bars. Sometimes traffic is slow, several homes in the heart of town are well over 100 years old, sidewalks not maintained. Lake Erie sunsets on the beach can't be beat. In general, it's a nice summer destination.

Make sure to check which beaches in presque isle are open for swimming and if any of the attractions (like waldameer) are closed.
We had lovely weather and spent lots of time on the beaches, cycling and swimming at splash lagoon.
Sara's for lunch and dessert is a must!

Visited Presque Isle and a museum. Had dinner at Golden Corral, and the food was excellent.
Getting around Erie was a nightmare--WAY too many one-way streets. Totally unnecessary. My ultimate destination was inaccessible because of multiple closed streets for a festival.

It's a great place to go fishing.
There are beaches and waldermer park.
There are plenty of things to do.
If you go to erie check out to see when erie days is they have alot of different food when they hold this event and lots of music it's in downtown erie so there are streets blocked during this time.
They also have rib fest.
They have the Millcreek mall where they have tons of stores to shop from lots of places to eat

If you want to relax, the paved trails along the bay in Presque Isle State Park are for you. If you want a beach, there are miles of beaches - some with concession stands, changing areas, life guards, some without. Sarah's at the entrance to the park has ice cream, foot long hot dogs, chicken tenders, burgers, drinks, etc. A little chaotic when busy, but it flows surprisingly well. You can rent bikes, boats, etc. Plenty of shopping opportunities in plazas close to park and, of course, the town of Erie.

Best service EVER!! The staff were phenomenal at preparing 3 separate rooms and decorating it for 3 different occasions! My husband and I celebrated our anniversary, my nephew was a new graduate and my dad turned 70. Nobody expected it and when we all went to our rooms, it was a fabulous surprise! This hotel is top of the tier when it comes to accommodations. It was one night, passing through...but what a welcome! Thank you ladies for the great memory!! Location is great for shopping and food options, but the staff... number one!!
