Nestled between France and Spain, Andorra entices around ten million tourists each year with its seasonal selling points. In the winter you can ski down some of the best slopes in the Pyrenees, while summer gives way to a wide range of meandering hiking trails.
This popular principality is also a hub for duty-free shopping, with the capital Andorra la Vella the best place to pick up a bargain. You can walk around most of the town, with the northern side home to the more commercial area. The charming old town – known as the Barri Antic – is home to 12th-century churches and a wonderful town square with valley views.
As winter falls, alpine skiers head for the snow-sprinkled areas of Vallnord and Grandvalira. When you're done making the most of the slopes, you can relax at one of the mountainside cafés or restaurants on offer. The warmer months reveal a multitude of scenic walking trails beneath the melted snow – easily the best way to take in Andorra's mountainous landscape and mesmerising sunrises over the Pyrenees.
A number of mountain huts are available in various parts of the country, allowing you to access the most hidden corners of the dramatic terrain. As you'd expect, many hotels, chalets and self-catering apartments can be found close to the main ski resorts.
