The details make a huge difference: window seats in the room with views of the harbor, bathroom design where the shower is on one side of a wall so that water doesn't get all over the bathroom floor, enough hooks and hanging space for clothes and towels.

Situated in Gardur, Lighthouse-Inn offers accommodation with free WiFi and a garden with a sun terrace and sea views. All units feature air conditioning and a satellite flat-screen TV. This place was amazing. The location was ideal — especially as I had been to Iceland before and I was only doing an overnight stay (and didn’t need to drive into Reykjavik.) The facilities and breakfast were great. The location allowed me to have a short stroll to the lighthouse and get some great aurora photos!

Opened in June 2018, Hotel 1001 Nott offers modern accommodation 5 km from Egilsstadir. The hotel features outdoor hot tubs overlooking Lake Lagarfljót. There is also an on-site bar. Amazing! By far the best place around Egilstadir!
