My room and bathroom were spacious and spotlessly clean. I wanted to stay in a peaceful, cozy, and friendly place, to share moments, walk for hours along Thottada Beach, enjoy homemade dishes, discover local culture and traditions, and visit Kannur and its surroundings. All this was made possible thanks to Aparna, who welcomed us with great professionalism, warmth, kindness, and genuine care. Aparna took wonderful care of us—and of me in particular. I’m a woman, 52, traveling alone in south India for three weeks, and I was deeply touched by her thoughtfulness, advice, small attentions, and her responsiveness. This was the best homestay we have ever stayed at. All the facilities are nice, well maintained and clean. The house is very nice as well, it has a lovely garden and the room we stayed in had a small balcony with chairs (perfect for a relaxing afternoon). Johnson made us feel right at home, and helped us arrange our backwaters tour. We did the village canoe tour and it was a really amazing and unique experience. The Homestay was a very family friendly environment, with lots of chances to socialise. Would highly recommend Johnson’s Homestay as a place to stay while you are visiting Alleppey!

The staff is very nice and helpful, even by a late hour. The location is great with not only a grocery store across the street but also some very nice clothes shops. I also liked how quiet the rooms are.

Great location just away from the main action in Varkala. Very peaceful. The main reasons to stay here are the staff and the food, both of which are exceptional. We were looked after when we changed our booking and then due to flight delays arrived at 1am. Devan provided excellent service and nothing was too much trouble for them. Hom Raj also looked after us for meals and drinks. We didn’t eat much from then European menu but the Keralan dishes (fish in banana leaf, malabari fish and prawn masala) were excellent. My partner cooks a lot of various regional Indian food and didn’t feel like going anywhere else. The rooms are basic in their facilities but very good value. Would happily stay again.

Stay was clean, cozy and quiet, it was a nice getaway. It is on the cliff, so the beach is quite close, takes about 15-20 min by walk. Host was helpful, allowed us to keep our luggage at her stay after the checkout until late evening when we were ready to leave. Provided us with a list of recommendations for visits and for food, and that worked out well.

We have been in this beautiful house facing the see. Riyas and his family are truly polite and treated us really well. The room was so clean, really comfy and it’s been beautiful sleeping with the sound of the waves.
