Located in Nagaoka, 15 km from Hikone Castle, Guesthouse Izame Ann provides accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a shared lounge and a bar. Well worth the effort to travel to experience a lovely ryokan, it's host and the town. I paid for dinner and I'm SO glad I did. It was a highlight of my stay and in deed a highlight of my 5 week trip in Japan. You sit in a sunken seating area and watch the ryokan owner/cook prepare what felt like a large number of individual dishes. The food was absolutely delicious. I was concerned about hearing other guests because, being an older house, the walls are thin - but the night I was there all the guests were respectfully quiet. I had a view over the "river" which may be a mis-nomer - but it is a peaceful stream running through the pretty street. I highly recommend a visit.

We got a room with its own toilet and bathroom for a great price. Traditional tatami style room makes it feel very humble and homely. The staff was very friendly and accommodating - they drove us to the station very early in the morning.

GYPSY TAKASHIMA has free bikes, garden, a shared lounge and terrace in Katsuno. The property is around 33 km from Sanzen-in Temple, 40 km from Ruriko-in Temple and 42 km from Enryaku-ji Temple. Great place with a very personal touch. Owner and people there were very friendly and not complicated at all. Kitchen with living room for general use, some games provided as well. Large fridge with freezer for shared use. Large room with several beds - hardness / softness of beds differs a lot. The kids loved the room. Gypsy / Owner offers several tours / activities around the lake as well.

Located in Minami-komatsu, 24 km from Sanzen-in Temple, Biwa-Lakeside Cottage B B Dylan provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace. We loved how accomodating and nice the staff were they were always making sure the space/ our room was tidy and neat and provided us with fresh linen, towels and robes daily. They cooked us meals and treated us like family! The location is beautiful right on the lake with amazing sunrises and sunsets and just a short 10 minuet walk to the station or a 15 minuet walk to 711. We honestly can’t fault anything about this property and can’t wait to stay again!
