The hostel was founded 7 years ago and is still changing and improving. The concept is inspired by the creators’ involvement and experience in various german industries including the Circus, music festivals and boat collectives. It is a community project offering jobs and support to local Costeño farmers. We enjoy diversity and our Team is multilingual and multinational. We are an LGBTQ friendly business and do not tolerate any form of discrimination or bigotry. This includes racism, homophobia and transphobia. Puerto Alto is a remote eco-hostel in the beautiful nature of the Sierra Nevada, 290 meters from the highway and 951 feet high so it has an unmissable view of the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding nature. With a focus on ecotourism, our objective is to protect nature and diverse wildlife. We cultivate 95% of the fruits and vegetables we use in our restaurant. Our Hostel offers a wide range of services, including accommodation in private rooms, cabañas, shared rooms, a restaurant, bar and activities such as dance classes, yoga classes, coffee and cacao tours, horse rides, surfing classes, tubing and fishing tours and of course our famous paragliding. Our installations are designed with the vision of the entire hotel being a boat, visible from the beach: a boat in the mountains. Futhermore we honor the culture of the local indigenous community which shows in the design of some rooms. A highlight is our pool with a great view of the caribbean sea and the surrounding mountains. Our restaurant not only offers an authentic culinary experience of the caribbean coast but also burgers, pastas, sandwiches and salads, all prepared with fresh ingredients and by local chefs.

The hostel is located 47 kilometers from Riohacha, 70 km from the airport Santa Marta and 13 km from the Parque Nacional Tayrona. When you arrive at our Port located on the main road, you will take a fairly steep walk to get to our hostel!!! Its a 15 minute walk without luggage having a good physique !!! We do not recommend it for the elderly or with any physical disability! We recommend arriving during the day, bringing hydration and sending your luggage by motorcycle (mototaxi hours until 8:00 p.m.). You can also arrange a mule ride a day in advance.
