Our charming accommodation is located in a former Wilhelminian-style villa, once owned by the industrialist Carl Örtel. This historical gem from the heyday of industrialization still exudes the unique charm of the Gründerzeit era – with high ceilings and lovingly restored details that preserve the character of the house. Gera Zoo Not far from the address is Gera Zoo, also known as the Thuringian Forest Zoo. Covering around 20 hectares, it is home to approximately 900 animals from 76 species, including moose, bison, and Barbary macaques. A special attraction is the park railway, which takes visitors on a ride through the grounds. Gera Botanical Garden Plant lovers will enjoy the Gera Botanical Garden, which spans 0.7 hectares and offers an overview of the flora of Eastern Thuringia. In addition to various plant communities, there is a geological teaching wall and a historic garden house now used for educational purposes. Osterstein Castle History enthusiasts can visit Osterstein Castle, once the residence of the Princes Reuss of the younger line. Although the castle was destroyed during World War II, the keep and the Wolf Bridge have been preserved and are open to visitors. Orangery and Kitchen Garden The baroque Orangery houses the Gera Art Collection, featuring works by artists such as Otto Dix. Adjacent to it is the Kitchen Garden, a historic park perfect for strolling and relaxing. Ferberturm (Ferber Tower) For a panoramic view over Gera, the Ferber Tower on Ronneburg Heights is highly recommended. Built in 1875, this 21-meter-high observation tower is a popular destination for excursions.
