My name is Marie-Louise, born and raised in Vedbæk, north of Copenhagen. On November 1st, 2023 I’ve returned home to follow my dream after 34 years of living in the Netherlands. Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamt of creating a place for young and old. A place where no-one felt alone or would be afraid of growing old. A place where everyone felt appreciated and welcome and where everyone felt that their stories mattered as did their presence. As it often happens, I made choices which took me astray from my dreams. Looking back, my path was necessary for me to build the courage, wisdom and strength to finally walk the path of my dreams at the age of 59 years. Having worked across many industries as a management consultant with expertise in People & Culture and Knowledge Management, until February 2020 as an employee and the 3 years after, as an independent with a side hustle as an Airbnb hostess since 2014 and a Super Host for the last 6 years, I was finally ready to turn my dreams into reality. I believe that the dreams we are given, are given to those capable of turning them into reality: If we can dream it, we can make it! I’ve always known that I would not allow my dreams to stand at my deathbed when time comes, asking me why I had not made them come true even though I had the skills to do so. The last 10 years I’ve planned my path carefully and one night, in May of last year, the final puzzle piece fell into place: if I had the guts to leave my home in the Netherlands and move to a new place where I did not have any previous relations, I could make my dream come true. And 6 months later I am living at Solbjerggaard, serving a number of customers in the Netherlands, while I build up Solbjerggaard to the place of my dreams and the dreams of my family.

When I first came to Solbjerggaard, I instantly fell in love with the place. It has been so lovely renovated by the previous owners with respect for the material used and the history of Solbjerggaard. It is one of the oldest heritage sites in Millinge, dating back to 1729 and it is one of the few farmhouses with four wings, making it even more unique. It is such a special place to stay in and explore from. In our experience, Solbjerggaard really feels like the most beautiful, inviting and characteristic home away from home. We have decorated our home and the apartments to create a sense of warmth and cosiness, allowing you to sit back at the end of a beautiful day while playing a game (of cards), reading a book, listening to lovely music, enjoying conversations with the fellow guests, getting yourself some delicious treats or simply relaxing and hearing your own thoughts in front of the fireplace. Our biggest wish is that everyone that enters feels at home, and a part of our family. Homemade snacks, good conversations, cosy Fridays, laughter, and jazz music playing in the background, these are just some of the ways in which we hope for you to feel looked after, welcome and at ease.

One of the things that makes our Bed & Breakfast so unique, is the fact that it’s centrally located not only as opposed to Copenhagen (Zeeland) and Aarhus (Jutland) but also to many beautiful cities on Funen itself. Whatever place you choose to explore, there are so many exciting, unique and beautiful things to do, see and experience. Whether you want to go out and do something you’ve never done before (like Bridgewalking) or you want to enjoy yourself in nature, fishing, subboarding, canoeing, swimming or exploring the beautiful nature reserve and largest contiguous forest and nature area of Funen, Svanninge Bakker, together with Svanninge Bjerge and Sollerup Skovwhole area also known as “The Funen Alps”. or you want to try a unique Michelin GuideRestaurant, visit a Christmas market, see H.C. Anderson or Carl Nielsen’s childhood home or go out on the golf course for a day, there truly is something for everyone. With Faaborg (3km), Falsled (2km), Svannige (2km), Odense (21km), Assens (26km) and Svendborg (26km), Copenhagen (190km), Aarhus (160km), Ribe (139km) around the corner, the list of things you can do is endless. Not only is this area a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering some beautiful hiking, biking and horse-riding trails that wind through the countryside and reveal captivating views at every turn, it’s also an absolutely amazing place for people who love being out on the water sailing, kayaking, surfing, supping, fishing, island hopping, finding oysters or clams and going on a boat trip. Christiansminde, Hasmark Strand, Nordstranden, Stranden ved Nyborg and Drejet, are just some of the beaches that allow for the most relaxing and beautiful days. And if you’re into playing golf or are up for a new experience, Faaborg Golfclub is just a 6-minute drive away, making it the perfect daytime activity in the most beautiful surroundings.
