We spent several years researching glampsites to arrive at the facilities of Camping le Monteil. We want to bring "Quiet camping with a hint of luxury". Each bell tent is set on a wooden deck in it's own large plot with natural borders in-between. Each tent has a very comfortable king-size bed, singles are available on request and additional beds are singles (the six metre tents can comfortably house a king-size bed and the two singles. The five metre tents are ideal for two people. All linens and towels are included. Each tent has a two-burner outdoor kitchen with all the pots and pans you will need, and the important kettle and cafetiere. There is also a charcoal barbecue. Plates, glasses, cups and cutlery are all provided at the tent. We want you to be able to arrive and relax. There is no mains electricity in the tents but all have solar lights and torches, and a large powerbank is provided to enable you to charge devices. Each tent has it's own private bathroom in the large stone barn, with a large shower and all the facilities you would expect. There is a communal kitchen in the barn with two washing-up sinks, an electric kettle, microwave and toaster. Each tent has it's own fridge so there is ample room to store food and cold drinks. Also in the barn is a guest locker room. This has a coded lock and has a private locker for each tent - a safe place to leave things when going out exploring for the day. Outside the barn is a spacious patio with two large picnic benches and plenty of space to relax. There is good phone reception throughout the site but WiFi is also available at the barn.

We bought this site in 2023, the barn was previously a night club!  We have worked hard to provide the sort of holiday we would like to go on ourselves. We're both keen hikers, runners and cyclists and have thoroughly explored the local area - we are never short of ideas for a route and can provide GPX files. Camping le Monteil is surrounded by farms on all sides and the peace and tranquility of the location is ideal for relaxing. We are at nearly 500 metres above sea level with almost no light pollution so clear skies at night provide a blanket of stars with the Milky Way clearly visible. The beautiful spa town of Evaux-les-Bains is just 2km up the road with three boulangeries, an award winning butchers and a well-stocked supermarket. There are several excellent restaurants, including one at the casino. The town is dominated by the 11th century abbey, built on the remains of a Roman temple. Following the steps and road from the abbey retraces the Roman path down to the spa, which has relaxation and health treatments using the mineralised water of the hot spring. There are numerous hiking, running and cycling routes directly from the site, or a short drive away. Our friends at Tourisme Creuse have an excellent website with suggestions. For a less strenuous day, there are numerous villages and attractions to explore within a short drive. Whether you want to cycle all day into the hills, head out for a mountain hike in the Massif de Sancy (just over an hour away) or relax at a village cafe, all are in easy reach.
