The OVO Network team’s opinion - Chalet La Cachette is a three-storey modern chalet for 10 guests, with five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Just a short walk from the centre of Châtel and the ski bus stop, it's a great choice for a group of family or friends who don't want to have to depend on their cars to get around. Châtel is one of the 12 resorts of the Portes de Soleil ski area, so you'll never be short of somewhere to explore. And outside the ski season there are plenty of walking and hiking trails, whether you want a challenging high-altitude hike or a gentle lakeside stroll. Cyclists are well catered for too, with popular road routes and a bike park for MTB riders. Chalet La Cachette has a bike store, tools and washing facilities to keep your bikes in tip-top condition. Three of Chalet La Cachette's five double bedrooms are on the ground floor, and can be arranged with large double beds or two single beds. They also have doors to the sunny terrace and hot tub. There are two more double bedrooms on the top floor, each with en-suite shower rooms and their own balconies with wonderful views. The ground floor has a spacious, open-plan living area with a sleek, contemporary kitchen, a breakfast bar and a large dining table. After dinner you can sink into the cosy sofas in front of the fire and TV, or hang out in the TV room. There's also a sauna and a laundry room on this floor. Chalet La Cachette is in a quiet residential location just a 10-minute walk from the centre of the Châtel, a popular mountain resort in the Portes du Soleil ski domain. The shuttle bus stops just outside the property and the nearest ski lift is just 750m away. The Super-Châtel/Barbossine and Linga/Pré la Joux/Plaine Dranse sectors that surround the village have 41 ski lifts and 45 slopes, providing plenty of scope for all ages and abilities. Châtel is still a traditional farming village, retaining its Savoyard architecture and character. But the growth in ski tourism means it now boasts some wonderful restaurants, both on and off the slopes. There's also a great aquatic centre with spa facilities, as well as indoor and outdoor pools, and a popular indoor play centre for younger children. In the summer, there is a huge choice of trails for hikers and bikers, Road cyclists can challenge themselves on the Deux Cols route or the Tour Mont de Grange, and MTB riders will appreciate the nearby bike park, which offers 20 downhill routes of various levels and two slope styles. Guests with a taste for adventure can try the Fantasticable – a zipwire which will have you hurtling between the mountains at up to 100kph. There are plenty of places to explore around Châtel too – the picturesque medieval village of Yvoire, on the banks of Lake Geneva, is just an hour away and the beautiful Château de Chillon, near Montreux, is even closer. Châtel is easily accessible from Geneva airport, either by car (about 90 minutes), train or bus. Or you could arrive in style by booking a helicopter transfer!
