The Smugglers is under new ownership as of 2024 and is the sister location to the well-known and established Dartmoor Inn, Merrivale, which we've proudly run since 2018. With years of experience in hospitality, our team is passionate about creating warm, welcoming spaces where guests can relax, unwind and enjoy great food in beautiful surroundings.
At the Smugglers, we focus solely on this much-loved, historic hotel in the heart of Brixham, dating back to the 1600s. We’re proudly child and dog friendly in allocated room and the first part of the bar-restaurant, offering a relaxed and cosy atmosphere with all the comforts of home, whether you’re staying overnight or joining us for a meal.
Guests can expect comfortable en-suite rooms, a freshly prepared breakfast each morning and delicious lunches and suppers served in our Smugglers Bar & Restaurant, with dishes inspired by the best local land and sea produce.
With Brixham’s bustling harbour, South West Coast Path and stunning beaches just a short stroll away, the Smugglers is the perfect base to explore the very best of South Devon.

We’re delighted to welcome you to the Smugglers Hotel, a historic, family-run hotel in the heart of Brixham. Parts of our charming building date back to the mid-1600s and, over the years, it has been everything from a boarding house to a carpenter's workshop – and even the home of the famous Brixham smuggler Bob Elliott. Today, we’re proud to offer a warm welcome, clean and comfortable en-suite rooms and a delicious breakfast included with every stay.
Under new ownership, the Smugglers is now open as a hotel offering room stays with breakfast included and we’re thrilled to have the Smugglers Bar & Restaurant open for lunch and supper, serving the best of land and sea with locally sourced ingredients.
Lunch and supper are available to book separately and we highly recommend reserving a table in advance, especially during weekends and holidays.
We happily welcome children and dogs in designated rooms and in the front section of our bar and restaurant, creating a relaxed, cosy space where everyone can feel at home.
With Brixham’s bustling harbour, South West Coast Path, Berry Head Nature Reserve and stunning beaches just a short stroll away, The Smugglers is the perfect base for families, walkers and four-legged friends to explore the very best of South Devon.
