Mistletoe Munnar is a boutique, premium home stay having five well furnished rooms with private balcony; overlooking the magnificent Chokkanmudi peaks, Lakchmi hills and Kanan Devan plantations of Munnar. This home stay features a traditional clay oven bakery, a cute café, small library and plenty of warmth and care from a typical Kerala Syrian Christian family. Perhaps the only home stay in Munnar where the host’s family resides in the house and offers authentic home cooked food, with a focus in organic life style and traditional cuisine! Local flavor, ethnicity, traditions and inter action with locals in less crowded atmosphere will be the USP!
Mistletoe Munnar is situated at Iruttukanam, on Kochi – Dhanushkodi, NH 49. The driving distance to Munnar via NH is only 16 kms and via Anachal By pass is 14 kms only. It is located between Munnar and Adimaly, ideally at the gateway junction to the Kanan Devan hills of Munnar. Cochin International Airport is only 95 kms away from Mistletoe at a driving duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The nearest town is Adimaly, the famous hub for spice trading in Idukki district, and it offers all health care and emergency services.
The Promoter of Mistletoe Munnar, Joe belongs to the third generation of migrants who have moved from the Central Kerala district of Kottayam( Erstwhile Travancore kingdom) in the early 1930s. Joe is a graduate in Psychology from Adamson University, Manila, Philippines, and also a Certified Hotel Administrator by American Hotel & Motel Association and has more than 16 years of hospitality exposure with reputed brands like Club Mahindra, Habitat Hospitality, in operations, sales & marketing, administration, HR. In the homestay venture, Ms. Jeena Elizabeth, Jo’s wife is rather your host. Jeena is a postgraduate in Mathematics and hails from Kochi. Late Mr. Joseph Oommen, the head of the house was a skilled baker of the traditional baking era. Mrs. Annamma, Joseph’s wife hails from a conservative Syrian Christian family in Kottayam, central Kerala region, it is only an added blessing that Annamma has excellent cooking skills in Syrian Christian delicacies. And their jovial sons Nirmal & Thejas, aged 13 and 10 certainly add some rhythm and life to the entire ambiance.
Mistletoe is located in a quite village atmosphere where the local public is spice farmers, it is sleepy and romantic locale where the life is slow yet charming with its rhythm and music of rivers, trees, birds and culture.Since it is strategically located at the gateway to Munnar, the climate is in tune with the climate in Munnar. Very moderate sunny days and cool evenings at an average of 18 – 22 degrees is another unique feature of the place. The months following the monsoon offers some exquisite views of the mist clad Lakchmi Hills and the several silvery streaks of water falls from the hills at a height of 5750 feet creates a vow feeling in every admirer.
North: Stunning view of the evergreen Lakchmi Hills and The Pallivasal tea estates and Kanan Devan Hills
South: The Spice villages of Adimaly, Thalamaly and Pettumudi tribal hills
East: The Magnificent view of the Chokkanmudi Peak at an Altitude of 6353 feet MSL is a highlight of the home stay, especially during winter sunrise
West: Viripara tea estates and Mangulam Elephant spotting area and Spice villages
