The structure is located in the San Ferdinando district on the Pizzofalcone hill, more commonly known by the name of Monte di Dio. It is an area of ​​Naples located between the village of Santa Lucia, Chiatamone and Chiaia which, although not too extensive, still retains today important places of historical and artistic interest. It was precisely the hill of Pizzofalcone, in the second half of the eighth century, that constituted one of the borders of the ancient Parthenope, which stretched between the aforementioned and the islet of Megaride. The name "Pizzofalcone" dates back to a time when the hill did not yet belong to the urban fabric and was destined by the then King of Naples, Charles I D'Angiò, to hunt the falcon. For this purpose, the sovereign had a falconer built on the hill intended for real hunting. If the name "Pizzofalcone" dates back to the mid-thirteenth century, the second name of this area is much later. The name "Monte di Dio" derives, in fact, from the church of the same name with a convent founded in this area in the 16th century, inserted in the monumental complex of the Basilica of S. Maria degli Angeli.
