The Castle of Perno is located in the village of Perno, which was an independent municipality until 1932 and is now a hamlet of Monforte d'Alba. Originally a defensive stronghold in the Middle Ages, the castle became a residential dwelling from the 17th century onward. It has hosted many prominent figures, including Giulio Einaudi, who made the castle the secondary headquarters of his renowned Turin-based publishing house. It served as both a residence for writers and a vibrant center of Italian intellectual life. Since 2012, the Castle has been owned by Attorney Gregorio Gitti, professor of civil law at the University of Milan and practicing lawyer. From the beginning, the Gitti family’s project has been twofold: to restore the Castle of Perno to its role as a home for culture—through the creation of an association dedicated to contemporary arts—and to revive the region’s traditions by cultivating and vinifying native grape varieties, producing wines rich in character and identity. An exclusive space, refined in its architectural and interior details, the castle is nestled among the vineyards of the prestigious Castelletto subzone, and features a hanging garden filled with herbs and aromatic plants. It serves both as a unique place to stay overnight and a venue for private and corporate events, centered around fine wine and a truly distinctive location. The restoration was designed by the architectural firm Rovetta-Croset-Diano, in collaboration with artists Maurizio Donzelli, Giorgio Bertelli, and CCH. Our estate is arranged around a magnificent terrace overlooking the enchanting view of Serralunga d’Alba Castle, and can accommodate up to 300 guests. It includes spacious indoor and outdoor tasting rooms, a high-tech kitchen, outdoor pools, and an elegant, carefully curated guesthouse furnished with both antique and contemporary pieces, offering every modern comfort.
