With garden views, Arun Mekong Guesthouse is located in Kratie and has a restaurant, a 24-hour front desk, bar, garden, sun terrace and picnic area. The guesthouse facing the Mekong River is on a 1 ha plot with huge Mango trees. Arun Mekong is a wooden construction with 7 double bedrooms and a large public living area (terraces, restaurant area, nice hut on the river etc.) equipped with traditional Khmer furniture and décor. Some points you should not in advance to be not disapointed: There is no electricity on the island and the generator we operate provides only electricity 4-5 hours in the evening and does not allow for hot water in the bathrooms.There are moskito nets, but insects may enter the rooms. The place is unique concerning its location and beauty but is remoted and you should not expect luxury. We are open for individual tourists, small groups or may also rent the house for special events (your birthday party, a small retreat etc.). The restaurant provides simple Khmer and European food and drinks at reasonable prices.
We are a Khmer/German couple (Vandy & Peter) living in France. Originally we built the house for own living but after returning to Europe we decided to run it as a guesthouse to minimise the running costs. We manage it from France by internet and phone (you can always get directly in touch with us and we can respond you in English, French,German). On the site we have 4 khmer staff from the island. They are friendly and always open for your, but only one of them is speaking English and you should be a bit patient with them. You can rent bicycles or mopeds in the guesthouse to go around on the island or swim in the Mekong but Koh Trong it is also an ideal place for just relaxing. Bicycle tours along the river and boat trips to the famous Mekong Irawadi south water Dolphins can be organized for you by our staff after your arrival.
Koh Trong Island Is a wonderful island in the Mekong River in front of Kratie town. The island is a calm place where you can discover traditional Cambodian culture and nature in a nut shell.
