Dear guests! Welcome to our beautiful place Lofnes and the unique architecture of The Forge. Unwind and relax, and discover the raw, wild and unfiltered Norway. To the district's immense natural beauty, add centuries of heritage, daring architecture, cool design, topped with Norwegian quality and hospitality, and we are happy to present a quite unique vacation retreat.
The lodge is named “The Forge”, or "Smia" in Norwegian. What was once a busy forge in the early 1900s, is now transformed into a unique bedroom placed a short distance from the house between huge rocks and the forests' tall pine trees. The bedroom stretches like a glass cathedral five meters upwards and into the rock's surface. The heated floor of slick concrete, the Scandinavian wooden panels, adjustable spotlights, and a high-end 160*200cm mattress on top of local timber gives an exclusive impression.
Step out of your bed, into the forest and have a secluded steamy bath under the stars. It all adds to the feeling that this is something special (ask us for price using the bathtub).
From the bedroom a short path and 41 stairsteps through the apple orchard brings you to and from your private apartment in less than a minute. In this stylish and nicely decorated apartment you’ll have a well-equipped kitchen, dining table for four people, a cozy living room with a fireplace. All with astonishing views over the fjord and mountains. The exclusive bathroom with waterfall shower gives you the spa feeling.
EXTRA PEOPLE?:
The listed prices includes only one bedroom, "The Forge" (bedroom cabin). The 2nd bedroom in the apartment for two more people (4 in total) can be booked for an additional fee. An extra exclusive bathroom is also available upon request. Please contact us through the app to book the extra bedroom or bathroom.
ABOUT THE GUEST REVIEWS:

We, Gunnhild and Steffen now live here at Lofnes, Steffen's birthplace. Steffen is Marine biologist and works in the energy industry. Gunnhild is a pre school teacher. We are adventurers by heart and have spent years backpacking and traveling around the globe. Have also lived some years in Houston,Texas. We enjoy the great outdoors and love hosting travellers from all over the world visiting this beautiful part of the Norwegian fjord district.
Lofnes is a family place with a history of fishing and farming going centuries back. We still cultivate our fields and forests, and you will find us around the property while staying here at our place. We live on the floors above your apartment, and will as far as possible welcome you in person. As your hosts we are always available if you need any help or like to get some hints and tips about the district to make your visit even more memorable. We are also active on SOME hornelenpanorama if you like to see what is going on.
Welcome to Lofnes!
Regards from your hosts, Gunnhild and Steffen
Right outside in the forest you have a private secluded picnic area with astonishing views, lounge chairs and fireplace to enjoy for your morning breakfasts and evening bonfires. Be aware that between April 15th and September 15th general restrictions to outside campfires applies in Norway. This also applies under certain wind conditions here at Lofnes during winter and spring. Information and instructions will be given.
The great outdoors at Lofnes is just awesome! In fact, many of our guests say that the district's beauty with fjords mountains and beaches is almost absurd. The woods are literally at your doorstep, so you may take an easy evening stroll after arrival to the viewpoint in our forest. Hiking trails in all categories are nearby, from several family friendly easy and moderate hikes, to the more "bucket list" type of hikes. For the last, you should not miss the iconic hike up mountain Hornelen or to the isolated Vetvika beach. If you enjoy adventure, climbing the Hornelen Via Ferrata is also an option. All these within 10-30 min drive from Lofnes.
The nearby area is full of cultural heritage. The 7000-year-old stone carvings at Vingen are only a small boat trip away (guided tours only). And not to mention the impressive geology in the area. You do not have to be a geologist to spot the geological formations called the Hornelen Devonian basin. For those who like skiing, the alpine resort at Harpefossen is an hour away, and cross-country possibilities even closer. Scuba diving in the area is also reckoned to be high class. The well-known fishing village Kalvåg with its famous fish restaurant Knutholmen is a 45 min drive away, and not to forget the unbelievable Grotle beach only 30 min drive from Lofnes. Only 1,5 km to the local grocery store in Leirgulen
We have a short menu available, and you are able to buy locally produced cider, honey etc.
To enjoy the outdoors even more, we can offer to rent fishing rods and lures, tent, hammocks and cooking gear.
