Casa Formiga is a small and traditional Madeiran house that was recently remodeled in order to provide all the modern comfort to our guests. The property has more than 60 years and it was also used for winemaking. Its decor reminds us of that period but also has a modern twist. It is an ideal place for people that wish to have a quiet stay, relax, be in touch with nature, see breath-taking views and enjoy a great time in the rural areas of Madeira Island, being close to one amazing "levada". All the areas of the property can be used freely. The big outdoor space allows our guests to rest outside and do other activities with friends or relatives. It is ideal to enjoy the pleasant and mild climate of Madeira Island all year around and watch stunning sunsets. It is also great for children to play outside, since the whole property is totally closed, providing all the safety. If you wish, you may also bring your beloved pets.
I was born and raised in Madeira. However, I have lived abroad and came in touch with different cultures. I have studied a lot of subjects related to tourism as languages, marketing, business management, culture, and communication. I am young, open minded, responsible and assertive. This property was my grandmother's former house. As she passed away in 2015, we felt the need to remodel it by keeping its original roots, but not forgetting a modern touch.
Although Casa Formiga is located in an isolated area, the village of Fajã da Ovelha is a place with great cultural and natural heritage ready to be explored. Close to the property, there is a levada that can lead you towards Prazeres/Calheta (East) or Ponta do Pargo (West) with stunning views over the untouched nature and the traditional agricultural fields of Madeira. Further down the property, you may experience one of the oldest rock pathways of the village that will lead you to the southern part of Fajã da Ovelha with stunning views over the ocean, guiding you to the village's eighteenth-century church.
