Situated between Champagne Castle Hotel and the Monks Cowl entrance, Highbourne Cottages is part of the Drakensberg World Heritage Site. Steeped in history, the first cottage was built in 1941. Highbourne Cottages are self-catering cottages tucked away in the pristine Monk’s Cowl area in the Central Drakensberg, KZN. The cottages are off grid but still offering modern comforts with our water source coming from a spring high up in the mountains. Highbourne Cottages is the perfect place to unwind and relax. Our garden is full of birdlife with access to the many walking trails in the world heritage site right from our property. We are centrally located to all the local shops, outdoor activities and restaurants which are a short drive away. Your perfect getaway….

A quiet and perfectly peaceful environment; the only sound to be heard is that of birdsong, the hum of bees and the soothing music of trickling streams! Surrounded by hills and soaring peaks and situated deep in the heart of the Drakensberg, at the end of the R600, just outside Monks Cowl Park: it is ideally situated for the keen hiker, birder and photographic enthusiast! In the vicinity closeby, there's chocolate tasting, a cheese shop, a variety of coffee shops and restaurants. Rides in hot air balloons, helicopters and gliders are also very popular. Golf, river rafting, horse riding, adventure courses, including mountain scooters, bikes and zip lines are available for the sporting enthusiast. Daily shows of predator birds, at the well known Falcon Ridge are just 10 minutes away. Weekly performances by our world renowned Drakensberg boys Choir is a definite must and not to be missed!
