In 1997 we purchased the vacant land, on which we built Maple Grove. The only structure on the property when we purchased it was a stable which stood where the existing cottage is now. In early 1998, building operations commenced over weekends on the main timber home and the stable was used as a storeroom and sleeping quarters for the duration of this exercise. At times building construction was endured during snowfalls and in sub-zero temperatures. The name Maple Grove was decided upon after numerous family discussions, and as the many varieties of Maple Trees on the property had already been planted by the previous owner. The main homestead took about 5 years to complete whereupon the stable was demolished and The Cottage was built out of wattle and daub We decided to close in underneath our log home, once we became so busy that the Cottage was not sufficient, eventually adding on an extra lounge and kitchen as well as the wooden deck. This was then known as The Cabin. The Chalet was built in 2010 with the help of our son who returned home after 8 "gap years" in UK. The property is surrounded by Maple Trees and we have our own Kiwifruit orchard.

Our passion is Maple Grove. Peter dabbles in a bit or art, plays bowls at the local Bowling club and potters around in the garden, as well as being "the maintenance manager". Lyndsay is responsible for the general running and administration of Maple Grove, and loves visiting her children and grandchildren when the opportunity arises. She works in the local library once a month, and is a tea-hostess at the Visitors Information Centre during the Hogsback Garden Tours

Hogsback is well known for its numerous waterfalls and hiking trails. The Labyrinth at The Edge is a popular tourist attraction, as is The Eco-Shrine. Be sure to visit Crystal Corner which boasts some of the best crystals in South Africa, as well as many other gifts or keepsakes to take home with you. Hogsback has many Eateries and pubs so you will be spoilt for choice!
