Tons of space which we weren’t used to after small hotel rooms, very luxurious! Very clean and organized and had everything you could need including soaps, laundry detergent, razors, etc. beautiful building! Wish we could have stayed longer.

I don’t have the words for how absolutely lovely this stay was. This is a family-run ryokan and the family is such a wonderful group of people. They are all so kind and provide wonderful hospitality. They also all speak some English which was helpful for us Canadians. The tour around Shirakawago with the father/owner of the property was so enjoyable. He is such a nice man and I really appreciate his values. He really believes in treating everyone with kindness no matter nationality, ethnicity or beliefs. The breakfast was a classic kaiseki meal (the fish was delicious). Dinner was a wonderful spin on a kaiseki dinner. Everything is locally foraged for or caught or hunted. The youngest son is a hunter. We ate bear and deer tongue. The veggies were locally foraged for in the mountains. The squid we had was caught in the ocean by the father. This was such a once in a lifetime experience. The hot spring bath is really lovely and the futons are really comfortable. I highly, highly recommend this stay. It was a highlight of our trip.

Auberge Hidanomori se nachází v tichých kopcích, 10 minut jízdy kyvadlovou dopravou od stanice JR Takayama. V roce 2022 byl znovu otevřen po rekonstrukci. Snídaně a večeře dokonalá, pokoj velký, pohodlný a čistý. Kyvadlová doprava na nádraží a do centra města funguje dokonale. Krásné a tiché místo na okraji města u lesa.

This is an excellent property to stay in and feels like very recently renovated. Spotlessly clean, with all the facilities we needed. Cooking and laundry facilities are all new and easy to use with helpful English translations on the key buttons. The AC was very welcome given the time of year and very high temperatures. The location is only minutes walk from the older town streets with shops and places to eat. Also only about 5 minutes from a good supermarket, ideal if you want to do some ‘home’ cooking.

Hida Minzoku Mura skanzen se nachází 11 km od ubytování.... We were lucky enough to be the only group that was booked during our stay, and it was exceptional. The house offered a little slice of what country life is like but still have the accessibility to a decent sized town. The Japanese garden was relaxing, and having a little family shine out back by the woods really made the property even more special. We took the tatami room and I was afraid that it might be uncomfortable, but it was some of the best sleep I had during our trip. If you plan to take a bus there, take the H02 or H03 (Hirayu s Hiohotaka line - stop H14) and walk about 10 minutes. He property itself has 3 rooms that the owner rents out, 2 tatami rooms and 1 western style room. There is a full kitchen downstairs, a bathtub, and a separate washroom, which was a nice touch since it allowed us to do our thing without having to wait for the toilet/shower. On our last night, we cooked a little meal and enjoyed it in the traditional dining rood.

Absolutely immaculate, due partially to it being brand new, but the craftsmanship is brilliantly executed. To say it exceeded our expectations is a massive understatement. It's very comfortable, private, clean, and well equipped. The location is nice since it's very close to everything, but also a little off the beaten path so you can escape the crowds. The route into the centre along the river is idyllic and such a treat. There's even a tiny playpark nearby for little ones, but it has seen better days. Highly recommended.
