Built in 1903, the iconic Taj Mahal Palace stands majestically opposite the Gateway of India, overlooking the Arabian Sea. Our stay at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai was, quite simply, impeccable. From the moment we arrived, the Palace lived up to its considerable reputation. The staff throughout the hotel were consistently exceptional — perfectly trained, unfailingly courteous, and ever attentive without being in the least intrusive. Every request was met with effortless efficiency. Breakfast each morning in the Sea Lounge was an absolute highlight — a splendid combination of buffet and à la carte offerings, all of the highest quality. The selection was truly impressive, catering to every palate with ease and refinement. We particularly appreciated the calm, elegant setting overlooking the Arabian Sea, while the live musician performing outside added an understated charm to the mornings. We would, however, recommend arriving before 9 a.m. to avoid the later rush. A small but thoughtful gesture exemplified the essence of Taj hospitality: upon mentioning to the breakfast manager that I had a mild stomach ache, he immediately arranged for fresh coconut water — a simple act of kindness delivered with genuine concern. Additionally, I appreciated the manager of the Shamiana restaurant going out of his way to package a couple of servings of rasmalai for us. We also greatly enjoyed the hotel’s guided tour, which was a delightful blend of joviality, history, and insight. It offered a deeper appreciation of the Palace’s remarkable heritage and the many stories woven into its walls. We happened to stay during Diwali, and the festive atmosphere only enhanced the ambience. The hotel was beautifully adorned, yet the sense of calm and refinement remained perfectly intact. The concierge, too, was flawless — there seemed to be no request they could not manage.

The facilities were very good, especially given the hotel's age, but the exceptional service level is what really made the difference. We loved the breakfast because the choice of both Indian and European food was excellent, the quality was great, and the waiters were very prompt and friendly. The reception was staffed with great team members, so both the check-in and the check-out were smooth. Bhupen was particularly helpful and efficient, and he even managed to remember my not-very-common last name. Also, the concierge Urvashi was very friendly and professional and gave us some great dining suggestions. The location of the hotel is far away from the city center but very close to the airport, and there is a whole cluster of top hotels around, so if you want to try some new restaurants you can either walk or take a short tuk-tuk ride to another 5-star property nearby. The pool of the hotel is great and it is super relaxing to take a nap on one of the sun beds surrounding it.

It was very luxurious. Everything was clean and smelled like jasmine. The staff were very kind always. They have cars available if you wish to go somewhere, and the food was amazing. Absolutely recommended.
