Situated along Tanohara River and surrounded by tranquil nature in Kurokawa Onsen hot spring area, Oku no Yu Ryokan offers charming Japanese-style accommodation and various hot spring baths. The breakfast was exceptional in quality and we felt right at home and relaxed immediately upon arrival. The location was pristine and the room so comfortable. The onsen was one of the best in town!

Located in the heart of the city, Hotel Nikko Kumamoto features accommodations with free wired internet access and views of Kumamoto Castle. Hotel Nikko is centrally located in Kumamoto making it an excellent choice for any visit. We stayed for 4 nights and truly enjoyed the place. Rooms are spacious and clean with all amenities available. The breakfast on the buffet on the 2nd floor had one of the best choices we have seen so far in Japan with locally sourced products. In the same building as the hotel there is also a Japanese restaurant, there are few set menu available for hotel guests - it’s an excellent choice and the food was delicious.

The Lady was wonderful she made us a really good breakfast, helped us out a lot, and was super friendly. It's definitely one of the best stays I've had in japan.

Located in Kikuchi and only 18 km from Hirayama Hot Spring, 民泊サライ七城 provides accommodation with mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking. We chose Kikuchi instead of Kumamoto, to get away from the city before our trip to Mt Aso. We got a lovely country house, but the main benefit was the lovely couple who hosted us. Super friendly and helpful. I enjoyed breakfast, my wife skipped hers, so the host packed it as a bento box for our lunch. Vegetables from the garden. A guided visit to the forest to see fireflies. Tastes of local food and drink. It was if we were lodging with my favourite aunt and uncle.

Omusubi gistihús (JAPANESE STYLE) er nýlega enduruppgert gistihús í Mamihara þar sem gestir geta fengið sem mest út úr ókeypis reiðhjólum og garði. Wonderful place, very cozy. The hostess was such a gem, helped us with recommendations and much more. Highly recommend. It's easiest if you travel here by car.

43 km from Mount Aso, hostel+cafe たね is a recently renovated property situated in Hōgano and features air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. The location in the country side, the beautiful house, and, mostly, the lovely and warm welcome by our hosts. Try the breakfast - it was delicious.

Momiji Hostel er staðsett í Minami Aso, 31 km frá Egao Kenko-leikvanginum Kumamoto, og býður upp á gistingu með garði, ókeypis einkabílastæði og sameiginlegri setustofu. Our stay at Momiji was great! The old Japanese house was warm and homey and the hosts were kind and welcoming. Two cats were a bonus. Dinner at the Thai restaurant was exceptional and highly recommended! I would be back anytime and ideally would stay for longer!
