Located in the heart of the city, Hotel Nikko Kumamoto features accommodations with free wired internet access and views of Kumamoto Castle. Hotel Nikko is centrally located in Kumamoto making it an excellent choice for any visit. We stayed for 4 nights and truly enjoyed the place. Rooms are spacious and clean with all amenities available. The breakfast on the buffet on the 2nd floor had one of the best choices we have seen so far in Japan with locally sourced products. In the same building as the hotel there is also a Japanese restaurant, there are few set menu available for hotel guests - it’s an excellent choice and the food was delicious.

We chose Kikuchi instead of Kumamoto, to get away from the city before our trip to Mt Aso. We got a lovely country house, but the main benefit was the lovely couple who hosted us. Super friendly and helpful. I enjoyed breakfast, my wife skipped hers, so the host packed it as a bento box for our lunch. Vegetables from the garden. A guided visit to the forest to see fireflies. Tastes of local food and drink. It was if we were lodging with my favourite aunt and uncle.

We had the accommodation for the three of us and it is very big, just in a small other room there was a volunteering couple and they used the kitchen but no problem. Everything was very well thought of and the owner explained everything very welcoming. Also it is there to preserve traditional housing and villages so it was a very special experience.
